FRANKFURT -- Audi expects to sell up to 70,000 units of its Q7 SUV this year after getting more than 16,000 orders by early March, the Volkswagen unit said on Friday.
"Overall annual production will be 50,000 to 70,000 vehicles," an Audi statement said, adding that unit sales would also be in this order of magnitude.
The Q7 went on sale in Europe this month and will launch in the United States and China in June. Other markets follow in the second half.
Brisk demand has prompted Audi to rev up production of the model to 300 units per day from 200, it said.
Audi makes the Q7 in Bratislava in Slovakia using motors made in Hungary. Audi invested hundreds of million of euros in the project, it said without being more specific.

The Audi Q7 looks cool but I'll pass. We'll have to wait and see how it fairs against the competition. I'd rather get a GX 470 or an RX 350.

Can't wait for the NY Auto show
Man I've been following this Q7 for the past year or so and I'm curious to see what this thing will look like in person. Audi has big expectations I see.

It should sell better than GX with that in mind, but I doubt it - Audi doesnt have the same brand image as Lexus in the USA.

I'll also agree with Audi not having the same brand image - they don't have a worse image, but they have a different image.

Would bigger than RX SUV fit their lineup better? Probably, but it would take a lot of sales from GX (whose buyers probably are not even aware it is an truck afterall).
I rather think RX will grow slightly in 2008 to accomodate 3rd row, and there will be slightly smaller SUV than RX today, which will fit current RX's shoes....

like the a8's the techs have to be certified by audi to work on them. audi is asking/telling them that they now have to work on the q7's as well, much to their shagrin. mostly in part due to the complexities of the onboard electronics audi only pays them x amount of hours to fix a certain problem, but it's turning out to take longer because of the software...it's no longer as easy as seeing broken part and replacing it, the techs are expected to be program debuggers now. if the q7 has the same electronics as the a8...then you're going to be in for a fun time. i wanted to wait and see what this thing would look like in the flesh, but i'd rather wait for all the teething problems to get ironed out. sorry for the crappy typing im holding my 15 week old son in the other arm
what i would love to see lexus do is come up with something as sporty as my RRS ... man i would not think twice about it...sporty looks of a rrs w lexus reliability...where's my wallet hehe
