Default Honda annouces Fit prices

TORRANCE, Calif., March 20 — The all-new 2006 Honda Fit will debut at dealerships nationwide on April 20 with a manufacturer's suggested retail price of $13,850, American Honda Motor Co., Inc., announced today. The Fit leads the subcompact segment with the most standard feature content in its class, a unique level of interior functionality and a sporty driving character.

Built on Honda's foundation of dependability, quality and reliability, the Fit includes a 109 horsepower, 1.5-liter, 4-cylinder, VTEC engine with a 5-speed manual transmission (an automatic transmission is also available, bringing the suggested retail price to $14,650). The Fit's standard safety features include dual-stage, dual-threshold front airbags, dual front side airbags, side-curtain airbags and an anti-lock braking system (ABS). Big on space, the Fit incorporates more than 111 cubic feet of interior volume and a Magic Seat(TM) that provides four distinct seating and cargo carrying configurations.

"The 2007 Honda Fit demonstrates how an affordable and fun small car can have similar safety features and refinement as larger, more expensive vehicles," said John Mendel, senior vice president of American Honda. "For consumers considering an attractive, affordable, and versatile car, the Fit provides a new entry point into Honda's vehicle lineup."

Priced at $15,170, the Fit Sport model with manual transmission adds a rear roofline spoiler, aero body kit, fog lights, security system with keyless remote entry, cruise control, a 160-watt, six-speaker audio system and 15-inch aluminum-alloy wheels with P195/55R15 tires. Fit Sport models with the available automatic transmission come standard with steering wheel-mounted paddle shifters and will be available at the suggested retail price of $15,970.

Additionally, the Fit can be customized with Honda Factory Performance equipment including 16-inch alloy wheels, sport exhaust, chrome exhaust tip finisher, rear bumper accents and a sport mesh grille.

The Fit has an estimated city/highway fuel economy rating of 33/38 miles per gallon (manual transmission) and is expected to be among the highest ratings in its class. Destination and handling charges for all 2007 Honda vehicles are $550.

It looks like any Japanese/Korean thingie the last 10 years. At least the Xb looks great or ugly to people (polorizing). Even the Element is ugly in a good way (sales).

This is just ugly and kind of expensive. With what looks like gauges from the RL and upcoming RD-X.

I saw a bunch of these when I was in Singapore last month and they look great. They're definitely not your typical blandmobile Japanese/Korean "thingie". The Fit Sport in red looks awesome, far better than any of the Scions IMO which they also have in Singapore, although sold as Toyotas. The pic above is the base model in a bad color choice. Seriously, wait till you see the car in person and in the trims that look good before judging them.

I looked over the Fits on display throughly at the first day of the DC Auto Show in January...they had 3 of them out on the floor and unlocked. One was a nice burnt-orange color..the other was kind of a lime green, the third one was gray. Then the second day they locked all three of them up for the rest of the show. They said orders from their bosses. ( Don't EVER try to figure out Honda marketing )

Anyhow, it is a nice small car with a versatile, tall, roomy hatchback design.....but that tall roof makes it look a little unwieldy. Inside, the well-designed dash and gauge package IMO is what the new Civic SHOULD have gotten and didn't....instead the Civic got that odd, two-tier dash with digital and analog graphics mixed together and the far-forward A-pillars like the VW Beetle.
I had enough interest in this car at the show that I plan to do a review of one, especially if there is some interest shown in it here at CL. It looks like a nice starter car for a college student or for someone who just wants good, efficient, reliable transportation.

Question no sedan?

Only the mini-van/wagon type body-style coming to America? (ie. not the sedan)

Really expensive!? My *1983* Honda Prelude with about 100HP, *no* air bags, no ABS, no fuel injection, not much space, was over $13K!

I don't understand how you and Mike can say it's expensive.

Oh and I think it will be a hit. Nice interior, not bad exterior (I prefer it to the Yaris), Honda reliability.

I think the Yaris will start above $13k. The Fit would be a $2k more.

But let's not forget that these are MSRP. People may be able to get it lower depending on their haggling skills...

you also have to look at what is offered at MRSP... The Fit is $2K more but has more standard options.

LOL....Understand where you are coming from. Cars today definitely have more features and power at argueably the same or lower price through inflation. And yes, just about anyone can afford a 13K vehicle.

When I look at the cars the Fit is suppose to compete with, subcompacts such as the Yaris, Aveo, whatever Suzuki is calling there models now, xA, xB etc this is basically the most expensive model. The Yaris, its direct competitor is more than 3 grand cheaper than the Fit. If you add up the features then we are looking at a 16-17K vehicle. And that is features that would normally come standard on a xB or xA at a rediculously lower price. At that price point, you might as well get a Civic, Corolla, Matrix, Vibe etc. They are targeting the car as a smaller and more affordable Civic, but its basically the same price as a Civic.

I am actually considering either this or the Yaris or even the new Nissan Versa to replace my gas guzzling Pathfinder. It's a downgrade but the Pathfinder is too thirsty all the time.

the point is you have the option to buy a base Fit for less than a base civic. Once you start adding all the options than it's not worth it and it does not matter which cars. Just like adding all the options to a Corolla, you might as well by a Camry, all options on the Camry, might as well buy an Avalon and on a fully loaded Avalon..you might as well buy a Lexus. ... you see where I am going?
