From this article, seems the next SC will be GS based?

Benz should stick to the S style 430 look, clean cut and presentable.

The SC 430 is GS based...

...and the article I guess means 3rd generation SC also (if using future tense)...

...yet another GS-inspired Benz lights.

From beginning to present, I thought the SC was always LS based. As I think about it that can't be true anymore. The sc430 is too small to be using the LS platform. Can someone who is knowledgeable tell us if the engines are similar between the sc and ls. Even the gs platform is a lot bigger than the sc. SC must be doing a lot of nipping and tugging if it is using either.....which is really stupid because the car is way too small interior wise. Lexus is keeping a lot of people from considering the car. Only ladies and smaller people can fit comfortably (no offense intended, in my point of view average is too small).

nop, the sc isn't much shorter than the gs. i have parked both togeher and the sc is only couple of inches short. i have read several times before that the sc430 is gs platform based. and finding the same 430 v8 engine in gs430, sc430, and ls430 menas that space is never a problem

the sc is small in interior coz' of the design in the trunk area to fit the whole room, that's why the trunk "area" is much bigger than that of the gs. i could be wrong, but i think the sc430 front is quite long as well coz' of the lower "slick" design that needs more space to fit everything (and tight)

and from spec

gs430 is 189.2" long
sc430 is 177.8" long

so it's a bit less than 12" difference

I am led to believe that the 1SC is more LS-like, at least in overall length, and not GS based at all (did the GS even exist at that time?). And the 1SC and 2SC both offer the LS V8 engine. The 1SC V6 offering is from...? But the current SC, even with GS platform, has appointments and a price that matches/exceeds the 3LS.

actually, the 1sc are LONGER than the 1gs or 2gs from what i heard, believe it or not they have very front front end. and the sc430 is so expensive mostly coz' of the stuff inside and the top i would say as base price the sc430 is the most expensive lexus (basically coz' it has next to no options), but if you talk about the most expensive one loaded ls430 is still about 10k on top

I am pretty sure the 1SC or first gen was based of the Supra platform or the Supra was based off of its platform. So is the current LS based off of the GS, current IS, and SC430 platforms. The guy at the Lexus dealership said my 2nd Gen GS is based of the LS platform. I know the SC, GS, LS are different sized cars but are they based on the same platform which has been altered a little for each car. I wonder if that means the last Supra was partially based off of the LS if it is shared with the SC and GS. It is kind of confusing but I think Lexus would just base all their v-8 rwd cars on the same platform to save money since they generally share the same engines in slightly different tune.

I hope the new SC will have a larger interior and more rear seat room then the pathetic 2+2 configuration it has now. I know a couple people who laughed when they saw the rear seat room and could not consider the car even though it was high on their lists. I hope it does not look anything like the current model and takes more cues from the original like the 4 headlight treatment that worked so well on the first SC. A more affordable 6 cylinder version would be nice too as well as a fixed roof model.

I'd be almost positive that each Lexus model is its own platform, save for the current SC. Why would Lexus do to their own cars what they're already doing to Toyota cars? Chop and paste it together differently, somehow.

The original SC was its own platform, and then Toyota built the MKIV Supra a year later which used some of the same parts. I don't remember if they're on the same skeleton or not, though.

The SC is not LS based.
