Old Article. Lexus 3rd best selling luxury brand in Australia, 2003
Lexus is now the third best-selling luxury car marque in Australia.
In a brand-to-brand comparison, total Lexus sales surpassed those of Audi.
Combined sales of Lexus vehicles were 4,490 - behind only Mercedes-Benz and BMW.
According to VFACTS, total 2003 Lexus sales were an all-time record for the brand in Australia, showing a 44.3 per cent increase over 2002 sales.
Lexus recorded its most successful December on record - the sale of 402 vehicles was a 66 per cent increase over the same month in 2002.
It was also the ninth consecutive month of record sales for Lexus.
Star performer for Lexus was its new RX330 model which, having only been launched to market in May, achieved 1,671 sales and became the Luxury SUV category's third-best selling model for the year according to VFACTS.
Sales of RX330 gained momentum throughout the year, and RX330 topped the Luxury SUV category in November and December.
RX330 claimed 19.8 per cent of the total Luxury SUV category in November and 18.1 per cent in December.
Lexus' other SUV, LX470 also performed strongly in 2003, with sales up 61.5 per cent on 2002.
The sales increase stemmed from LX470's late 2002 specification upgrade.
Sales of the flagship Lexus LS430 increased by 32.1 per cent year-on-year.
Since the launch of an upgraded version of LS430 in September, monthly sales of the model have more than doubled.
Lexus Australia says the luxury and prestige segments of the Australian vehicle market - which combined were up 15.4 per cent in 2003 - will continue to grow this year.
"These markets are always a barometer of the health of the overall vehicle market and currently they are very robust," said the senior manager of Lexus Australia, John Roca.
