Sports car briefs: PCM to race GTO.Rs; Infiniti enters Grand-Am
Pacific Coast Motorsports has become the first customer team to sign up to run Pontiac’s GT0.R tube-frame racer in the Grand American Rolex Series’ GT class.
PCM, which also competes in the Daytona Prototype division with a Pontiac-powered Riley MK X1, joins the factory-backed The Racer’s Group team that helped develop the GT0.R into a class winner over the second half of last year. The deal is a further extension of PCM’s relationship with General Motors and GTO.R builder Pratt & Miller, which also built the Chevrolet Corvette C5-R PCM that ran last season in the American Le Mans Series.
Infiniti joins Grand-Am
Infiniti will join the Grand-Am fold at round three in Home-stead, Florida, in March. A new operation known as Team HLM, based in Ohio, will run a pair of works-blessed G35 tube-frame racers. The car’s V8 engine, developed in conjunction with Menard’s, could then find its way into an Infiniti Daytona Prototype later in the year. Drivers for the G35 program include sports car convert Bryan Sellers, who raced for the works Panoz American Le Mans Series team last year, and Britons Johnny Mowlem and Ian James.
