Default Spy Shots: 2007 Lexus RX350 or RX450h?

the RX350 is coming in May 2006

my guess is that they are putting the GS hybrid system in this car to get more power with the refresh since this is a hybrid (look at front bumper)

or maybe the refreshed RX is getting the hybrid grill, but i doubt it since lexus wants the hybrid to stand out more

it is definently the hybrid though...look at the front bumper

also...an interesting note is that they are two different prototypes pictured...look closely at the taping and gas tank

Don't tell me the new RX350 will have 306hp(from IS350) or 280hp(from Avalon) because I would be pissed......my parents' RX330 "only" has 230hp.

The RX350 most likely will not get the same 3.5 from the IS. It will likely share the ES350 engine as the RX has always been Camry based.

that doesnt have anything to do with each other... they coud have IS's version of GR as well as Avalons. Main reason not to put IS's version is that it is more expensive, and new RX cant cost a lot more than old one.

Powertrain has nothing to do with platform in reality, as platforms can be designed (and are) to accept different kinds of powertrain configurations.

Of course, RX version would be optimized for premium fuel, so it will actually have 280hp...

Are those two different vehicles? The wheels look a little different. Perhaps one is RX350 and the other one is the hybrid??

For practicality reasons the RX will never need the IS's 3.5 because it's performance oriented. And why doesn't it have anything to do with eachother? Every engine the RX has had was the V6 the Camry had it cuts down on R&D costs. The current 3.3 engine was mated with a hybrid engine and that will be thrown into the Camry hybrid. It only makes sense to continue with the way they are doing things. I'm pretty sure the RX was completely based off of a Camry to begin with why change it?

Well these pics arent showing me much. Interested to see what they will do with the RXhybrid. But I dont think they will change it to a 450h. Maybe add a little more power to the 400h, but I doubt that as well.

What I hear about the Camry is that its going to be 4 cylinder based(2.4L I-4), not 6 cylinder(3.3L, 3.5L)

How are you so sure it's not a gas powered RX with a 400h front bumper to throw people off? Speculation...it will never end.

A lot of the fun in talking about future models/spy photo's is the speculation part, absolutely nothing wrong with speculating in these discussions IMHO . . .

Using GR version with or without direct injection has absolutly nothing to do with Camry at all. All Toyota vehicles are using several main engine series.

Only reason for RX to have version without direct injection is because it can not be much more expensive than current version. Economies of scale apply to any GR engine, even more so to direct injection version which is currently built in smaller numbers.

I.E. They will save money by using both GR series engines. And, much more RX's were made with V6 than Camry's, so in fact it was Camry who was using Lexus's V6 engine :-).

Of course, RX could not use GS450h's system, because that system is based on RWD configurtation, its first RWD hybrid system :-).

As to the RX350 with camo looking similar to RX400h, well some subtle updates to RX400h will probably be carried over to RX350.

Lexus said that all their vehicles will get direct injection systems upon engine change or model change... so expect it to (probably) be the 2GR-FSE but downtuned to (hopefully) flatline the torque curve (likely at the loss of peak HP)... that would be cool =P

The 400h will probably remain the 400h until the new model comes out.

i'm not sure, but i doubt that Lexus would do that...why would they need to...it wouldn't make a difference b/c they were just trying to cover it up

Well I hope they tune the 3.5 V6 for the RX to significantly improve fuel efficiency when compared to the 3.3 V6. It doesn't need to have 300 hp or even 280 hp. Some where between 255-275 should be more then enough.
