Default Pics of un-camouflaged 2007 S-Class from Edmunds

Doesn't look as bad as I thought but surely it isn't any better looking than the current model. The wheel arches will take some getting used to too.
Why is the three-pointed-star in the grille instead of on the hood though? This is their flagship luxury sedan not a sport sedan after all isn't it?

2007 Mercedes- Benz S-Class

Date Posted 05-12-2005

Its Frankfurt debut is still four months out, but our spy shooters caught a nearly undisguised 2007 Mercedes-Benz S-Class getting a final shakedown run on the streets of Stuttgart. Computer removal of what little disguise there was reveals an S-Class with bulging fenders, distinctive character lines and a very Maybach-like rear end. Although it's expected to sport larger overall dimensions than the current model, Mercedes' designers tried to maintain the athletic look of its flagship luxury sedan with a plunging beltline and slim headlights.

With its reputation taking a beating in recent reliability studies, Mercedes has gone all out to assure top-notch build quality and interior designs that are more agreeable to the average Mercedes buyer — especially in the U.S. That means electronics that are easier to use and ergonomics that don't dismiss the idea of having a cup of coffee on the way to work. An iDrive-type controller will be used, but Mercedes is taking great care to assure that it adds functionality to the car instead of contributing to owner frustration.

Safety will again take center stage as the 2007 S-Class will be the first Mercedes to offer its second-generation Presafe system featuring BrakeAssist Plus. The system uses radar to sense vehicles ahead and will sound an alarm if cars get too close. When the system senses an impending impact, BrakeAssist Plus can calculate the brakeforce needed to stop the car safely and apply it as soon as the driver presses the brake pedal.

Like the current lineup, the 2007 S-Class is expected to be offered with two V8 engine options, both slightly larger and more powerful than the current 4.3-liter and 5.0-liter power plants. The recent unveiling of a hybrid-powered S-Class concept in Detroit also suggests that Mercedes is seriously considering a diesel/electric drive system at some point after launch. Look for the official unveiling of the new S-Class at the Frankfurt motor show in early September with sales starting by the end of the year.

It isn't too bad, but the current one looks much better than this mini Maybach.

The autobild CGI's of the S class looks quite accurate afterall.

Yes, not only does it lacks the traditional 3 point start standing vertical on the hood above the grille, it's also using the Mercedes coupe grille instead of the tradition mercedes sedan grille , which is the most noticeable difference from the CGI.

Is it possible this is still a test version & they deliberately put a different grille on it ?

Afterall, Bentley had put a Mercedes-like grille on their test car a while ago . . .

Oh no no no no no! The current S is so classy, so beautiful. Those fender flares hurt me so bad just to look at. It's almost as if the Chrysler designers are jumping over to MB not the other way around. I don't even know what to say...

Burn this piece of siht. j/p

Not really liking the new S-class. I honestly thought it was going to turn out a lot better looking than this. And those fender flairs are weird. Hopefully the AMG models look 20 times better.

do those wheels look a bit small to anybody else? i'm sure they'll offer plenty of wheel options, but hopefully the standard ones will fill up those wheel wells better. maybe its the fender flares or camera angles that make them look undersized? can't say i like that semi-bangalized rear either.

I like how its no longer too curvey. Sharp turns make a big car look much better

This has to be a fake-out. Benz has done one thing right.....beautifully designed cars. I can't imagine producing this thing. There would be no reason to buy an S-Class. It would be unreliable and ugly. The double whammy of doom.

With pics of the next S class looking like that... It won't be a bad idea to pick up the 2006 S class since it comes with the AMG package standard.
