With record-breaking 2004 annual sales, Lexus retains its title as America's No.1-selling luxury brand for the fifth consecutive year. The automaker today reported total year-end sales of 287,927, up 10.5 percent over last year's record-breaking sales.

In addition to all-time best-ever sales, Lexus luxury utility vehicles enjoyed a record sales year, up 13.8 percent at 151,797 compared to 2003 totals of 132,935 units. The RX 330 was the luxury utility vehicle sales leader in 2004 with 106,531 units sold, an increase of 15 percent over the same period a year ago and the first Lexus to break 100,000 units in annual sales. The GX 470 mid-size luxury utility vehicle recorded annual sales of 35,420, a 12.5 percent increase over 2003.

The all-new 2006 GS 300 and GS 430 arrive at Lexus dealerships late next month with an official on-sale date of March 1.

Lexus also scored an all-time, best-ever December with 32,481 units sold. Record-breaking December luxury utility vehicle sales of 18,189 units, up 12.7 percent over last December, were ignited by all-time best-ever December sales of 12,367 RX 330 units.

The SC 430 hardtop convertible sports coupe reported an 18.6 percent increase over last December and the LS 430 flagship sedan reported December sales of 3,460 units, a 7.9 percent increase over last year’s December.

Incredible. SImply incredilbe.
32k Lexus sold in Decemeber. That is unheard of.
34k LS 430s sold. That is simply incredible for such an expensive car.
The RX and ES were the best sellers in their segment. No other luxury SUV is even close to the RX in sales. Not even close. The ES must have squeaked out the TL.

289k Lexus sold. 15 years ago, no one broke 100k outside Caddy and Lincoln. Wow. Speechlesss again.
And for those that say Lexus SUVs are carrying the brand, NOT. Lexus had record sales for SUVs AND passenger cars.

The new Odessey is giving the SIenna a good run, and for the new Tacoma managed to sell worse this month. I really hope it's a supply issue.

I've said it before, it is just sad that Lexus sells more trucks than cars. It is not Toyota's fault, they are building what people want, just that I hate to think of Lexus as "The Luxury Truck Company".

yup Lexus sells more SUV's than cars
Lexus sold the LX450 back in 96, when nobody else sold lux SUV's
since then Lexus has dominated the luxury SUV market.

Sales for 2004

ES330 - 75,916 up 15%
IS300 - 9,972 down 35.3%
GS - 8,262
GS300 - 6,914 down 38.6%
GS430 - 1,348 down 35.3%
SC430 - 9,708 down 6.0%
LS430 - 32,272 up 34.6%

passenger car 136,130 up 7.0%

RX330 - 106,531 - up 15.%
GX470 - 35,420 - up 12.5%
LX470 - 9,846 - up 6.8%

SUV - 151,797 - up 13.8%

Total Sales
287,927 up 10.5% or 28,172 vehicles

didn't Lexus break the 200k mark 2yrs ago or something, if the new GS, IS, and LS come out soon enough for 2006 no doubt Lexus will break 300k for 05.

Well Lexus saw where the market was going. Clearly, everyone else has followed suit. The BMW X3 has saved BMW face with its sales helping improve the bottom line.

* December Acura sales of 20,146 were up 24.9 percent compared to last year, and shattered the previous all-time monthly sales record of 18,547 set in May 2004.

* For the second consecutive month, the RL luxury performance recorded its best month ever with sales of 1,967 units, surpassing the previous record of 1,941 units set in November 2004.

* The TL performance luxury sedan was Acura's top-selling model for the 15th straight month with December sales of 7,211, up 18.6 percent over last year. The TL ended the year as the top selling luxury sedan in the U.S. for 2004.

* The MDX luxury SUV, set a new all-time monthly sales record of 6,238 units in December, surpassing the previous record of 5,788 set in December 2003 and also set its fifth consecutive annual sales record.

* The TSX sports sedan, recently named to Car & Driver magazine's 10 Best Cars list, registered 3,004 sales, pushing year-to-date sales to a record 30,365 units, up 59.9 percent over 2003.

Caddy

The bright spot for the company was Cadillac. Its 2004 sales rose 8.4 percent, and the division finished third in U.S. luxury sales behind Toyota's Lexus and Bayerische Motoren Werke AG. It was Cadillac's highest rank since 1998. DaimlerChrysler's Mercedes-Benz was fourth, the lowest finish for the German brand since leading U.S. luxury-brand sales in 1999.

Not to be harsh on the American consumers but it shows just how much the American public doesn’t really budget. As soon as the election was over and the economy receives a small boost people immediately ran out and purchase a car. I must say I was one up those consumers even though I love my NSX. I could have going back to school with that money. At this very moment the government is talking about cutting social security funds so people can invest in the stock market. Give me a break!
My 401K hasn’t been during too good for the past 3 years.

On another note Lexus is killing everybody in suv sales.

You know I noticed that almost everyone had their biggest December or biggest month in history. Almost every luxury carmaker increased sales!
