Cobra R is a goner
This is my buddys 01 GT that we converted into a 2000 Cobra R look-a-like. It use to be Mineral Grey and back in July we totally stripped it apart to a bare shell and I painted it Performance Red. It looks so close to the real thing you couldn't tell it wasn't, we were even getting parts together to build a 5.4 for it this winter. We used all FRPP parts and I painted it all apart so there were no tape lines, we even painted the engine compartment and under the floors. I was wanting to take some good pictures of it and post them but I guess it's to late now.
He was coming to work to day (it was raining here) and the car kicked side ways on him and a Camry T-boned him and sent him into a guard rail. The car was split into two pieces and came to the shop on two rollbacks. Luckily he is Ok, he walked away from the accident and only has cuts on his head. He wasn't wearing a seatbelt and hit his head on the windsheild, if he was wearing his seatbelt it would have been alot worse because the part of the car were the seatbelt attachs to got ripped away from the front. I just got back from the hospital and thought I would share. I'm going tommorrow to pick him up, they kept him overnight just to be save.

I can't comment on this particular seat belt issue. Usually it is MUCH better to have them on...and buckled correctly. But you may have a point about this particular wreck and the way the car was damaged. He is also lucky there was no fire....looks like the whole rear fuel tank and plumbing was taken out, too. (Maybe the rain helped prevent one).
Of course the whole thing happened when he lost it in the rain. Again, not having seen it, I can't comment on exactly what caused it, but a common cause of this type of accident in rear-drive pony cars is simply going too fast in the rain and trying to turn or brake suddenly. Low-profile, high-performance tires of the type commonly found on Cobras are BAD news when the roads get wet or icy...they are notorious hydroplaners.

Regardless, I will always wear my seatbelt.

A good point...I have to agree with it.

Right near work there's a one way bridge, he came through that(he said he was only going like 5 MPH) and he hit slippery patch and the car went side ways. He said he could see the Camry coming at him and there was nothing he could do. He said it looked like the Camry was doing about 40MPH, it hit him in the side, spun him around a few times and then into the guard rail
i dont know... that a LOT of damage from a Camry... was the camry coming in the opposite direction, because if it was the same direction, there is no way the Camry could have that much force to destroy the car like that. Maybe a Semi carrying a fleet of camrys to the dealer, but not a single camry. but if the car was going in the opposite direction at a high rate of speed, the possibly, but still... thats a LOT of damage from a Camry...
