a little late to the game... ok a lot late to the game but we had another dump last night so what the heck :P
been running 16" nokian WRs on my 1IS and haven't had many problems... vancouver sidestreet suck ***** but *knock on wood* i hvn't been stuck for more than a few mins, one backup, steering correction and i'm on my way. snow mode is also helpful to prevent over accelerating but TRAC OFF + LSD is a godsend when you do get stuck, so nice to be able to spin the wheels to get out of a tough spot.
route planning is definitely key even with winter tires, i drove to surrey last night as the dump started and FWDs (probly on 3yr old all seasons) were having trouble starting and staying straight on royal ave. i got up the royal ave hill alright, others were finding it slippery. on the way back i took a different route to minimize any hillclimbs.
drive safe everyone!

So a mini plow came this morning to psudo plow my street. But the guy didn't get down through the ice & he made the lane so narrow that Rover scrapes both sides of his little path. So no we have a narrow sheet ice path between very tall mounds of snow. Now if I meet someone head on, I can't pull off into the snow because it's such a tall slpppy mess.
Right idea, horrible exicution (really late in the game too, it's already raining and melting, now my street will be snowier longer)

I still can't get out of the garage...there is still compacted snow at the top of the garage entrance...which either causes you to:
a) Slide into a wall
b) Slide back down
c) Perform a fishtail maneuver and hopefully get out of it before hitting a 3rd wall.
This building manager need to be fired for this...but apparently he got a christmas bonus for doing nothing

Yup! It's excellent in the snow.
Not sure if you know the cars or not, but it has a 135 GLi engine in it, Weber carb, and a Remus muffler on the end of a custom made pipe from the manifold.
Then I broke an axle shaft

LOL, my buddy's car. He uses it for EVERYTHING. He's used it to move more than once, used it to go to the dump, carry car parts and detailing supplies (which he sells), fit a ridiculous number of wheels and tires in it, road trips, autox, and it's still squeaky clean and smells nice inside.
Ya there aren't too many around. Lotsa confused looks at aircare and ICBC, but it's in their system, so it's never been an issue.
Congrats getting your car out Faymester! My mom's IS didn't move for a couple weeks while it snowed. Not because it couldn't, just cuz it wasn't a good idea (damn other people). The tough part of driving it in the snow is just getting out of the neighborhood.
