Hey all!
New account here but not new to the forum (i forgot all of my past info including the email).
Anyways, I have a 2007 IS250 RWD/auto that Ive owned for the past 5 years that I've finally decided to do something different with. As in 1JZ different. First thing I want to address is the whole "why not 2jz?".. Well because I am on a budget, work away from home, just bought a new vehicle and a rental property within the last year, and I wanted to keep true to the model of 2.5L. So please for anyone who may bring up the whole 1j vs 2j swap... please don't
History/current mods:
260xxxkm
Neo motorsport coils
2008 ISF steering ecu
steering damper
fsport underbrace
PPE headers
catless custom dual header back
magnaflow mufflers
joeZ intake pipe k&n filter
lineacorsre LC818s
6khid top and bottom
and probably more that I'm forgetting about lol.
The goals:
to maintain some of the lexus goodies
600+ whp on pump gas
street-able and track worthy
and of course reliability
My plan consists of building the top end to allow for a higher redline and focusing on a good single turbo setup. I've seen some kits with the borg warner S366 EET dual scroll t4 so thats looking like a viable option. Anyways I want boost to come online at as low as possible but I know when talking numbers 600+ you're asking for a lot.
I do plan to keep lexus essentials fully operable in the car so i plan to leave as much as possible in the car. (keyless fob, push start, etc.) and sort that out once i have the engine running properly in the chassis. I'll be tackling all the engine work before the motor goes into the car. I'm sure ill run into clearance issues with exhaust/manifolds etc. but this whole build will be "worry about it when it comes". I don't need the car to be running anytime soon. I'm also looking to mate the 1j with the 350Z 6speed as i can buy one used and get it rebuilt, and buy the adaption kit for about the price of a decent condition r154.
Thanks for looking and i hope that this can be informative for many as Im going to learn a pile taking this on myself. Enjoy!!
Please ask questions and ill try my best to answer. Im not always online unfortunately.
How the car currently sits...
So about a month ago I picked myself up a 1jzgte vvti for a good price out of a shop in toronto. The guys selling it claims it was out of a jzx100 or 110. Its nothing to me as i plan to go stand alone anyway. Compression test was great across all six so that was enough for me to take it home.
The engine
The engine minus the auto tranny.
...and the tear down
So the most so far with the engine.
I decieded to go with Tomei poncams, tomei cam gears, crower springs&retainers. I also have some knowledge on porting and polishing and got some tips from a friend who runs a machine shop so i thought Id give er a go, but I didn't have enough time to wrap it all up this weekend. The head will be over at my friends shop soon enough to get checked professionally, ill then decide whether or not to change up the valves.
And well thats about it for my first post. PS
I won't begin any work on the chassis until the spring as I don't have a big enough shop or garage to work on it. I need to be able to roll it in and roll it out onto the laneway.

Hey all, as you can imagine it's progressing very slow, sorry for going MIA lol. I had a a generous amount put away to put towards the build but that all had to go towards another property I'm in the midst of picking up (Last moment decision on the banks part). And as you all know the "Canuck buck" isn't worth much at all so it makes it that much harder to find parts at reasonable prices. I'm sort of stuck relying on online buying as most performance shops in the area I've talked to about the build don't really wanna support it unless it's getting built in their shop and any state side don't want much to do with it because I'm in the great white (fair enough). I also caved myself and spent a hefty amount on my daily driven tundra lol (wheels/tires/lift/running boards).
So here's an update on the car:
I got ahold of some goodies for the head... TomeiPoncams/bc springs etc... The head got checked out at my buddies shop and he gave the ok to use it. I've re-seated the valves and replaced the exhaust side with oem, and I've been working on getting all the new springs and retainers back on the head. Just waiting on a 2jz head gasket from the dealer and some new arp hardware then I'll be able to get the head back on and go at checking clearances with the new poncams. I've Gotta admit Toyota is a lot less than USELESS for getting parts for the engine and the Lexus side of the dealer thinks I'm an idiot for doing this to a 250. I actually had one of the parts guys argue with me about using a 2jz gasket lol. Ive also been painting the block - simple ruby red, and everything else is soon to be out to my buddies shop for powder coating. Not much else going on with it at the moment - the Lexus has a nice layer of dust on it in the garage hahah.
I'll be back around sometime soon!

Should be cool once it's done. Good luck with the electronics! It can be done, though some stuff is definitely going to be harder than others. You'll want to keep the CAN BUS working, is the VVT-i 1JZ new enough to support CAN? If so that would be nice to have functional, though it obviously still won't talk with a lot of the other systems in the car, some of them are picky while others are happy as a clam with or without certain components.
It would actually probably be a better option to leave the stock engine ECU in place to keep certain things functional and run the 1JZ ECU in addition to it.
