Pulled a bead of RTV off the timing cover and now it's just pouring oil out. Awesome...

This is escalating quickly. A little oil dripping from the vvti cam gear is turning into, "well might as well get a new radiator, since it has to come out... And hoses... And a water pump... And the timing belt... And cam seals... And ooh billet pulleys... And HOOD STRUTS. My head ****ing hurts now."

Cheap Chinese double din with GPS, DVD, BT phone and audio streaming, etc etc...
The Scosche faceplate is about as off as people said it would be. Not perfect, but it'll do for a beater.
These headlights still have to go. I hate them so much.

Finally giving this old pile some love. This was just a quick once-over during lunch. I'll break out the clay and wax this weekend. I don't think it's seen anything except the drive-through car wash.

Ordered another UltraGauge last night. Had one in every OBD2 car. Not a bad way to spend $70. This is not my picture, but I couldn't find a picture of one in a 2GS.

It is a GX... 14.5 MPG isn't bad though

Also decided how I'm going to handle the faded paint on the roof (the only serious flaw on the exterior). Cheat! Vinyl wrap it gloss black. I like this look (minus these specific wheels) a lot.

Toyota/Lexus OBD-II Drive Cycles
Toyota/Lexus use a series of diferent drive traces for each system monitor.
It's possible that more than one monitor may run while doing a particular drive trace, but here's the official procedure from Toyota/Lexus:
EGR MONITOR DRIVE CYCLE
All models 1996-2002
Pre-Conditioning Requirements:
-MIL must be off.
-Altitude is below 7801 feet (2400 m).
-IAT (Intake Air Temperature) must be above 13E F (-10E C).
-1996-2000 Land Cruiser / LX 450 ECT must be below 104E F (40E C).
Driving Procedure:
-Connect Scan tool in order to observe data stream and monitor status.
-If IAT is less than 50E F (10EC) at engine start-up, idle engine for 10 minutes.
Notes: Do not exceed 30% TPS. Maintain smooth throttle inputs, avoiding sudden accelerations.
Exception: 1996-2000 Land Cruiser & LX 450- Begin driving immediately.
-Drive the vehicle at a steady speed between 43 & 56 mph (70-90 km/h) for three to five minutes.
-Stop the vehicle and idle the engine for 3-5 minutes.
-Repeat steps 1-3 once.
Notes: Readiness may not switch to complete if a pending code was set during the drive trace. Toyotas do report pending codes (using an enhanced scan tool). Pending codes are not considered a failure, and typically must be duplicated in order to set a DTC & MIL.

-Cold Soak Procedure is complete (see below).
(2002 MY vehicles will run monitor at temperatures below 14E F by cycling key to OFF and repeating drive trace).
IMPORTANT: A cold soak must be performed prior to conducting the drive pattern in order to complete the Internal Pressure Readiness Monitor (see below).
Cold Soak Procedure: Let the vehicle sit 8 hours, or until the difference between IATand ECT is less than 13E F (7E C).
Driving Procedure:
-Connect Scan tool in order to observe data stream and monitor status.
-Release pressure in the fuel tank by removing and re-installing fuel cap.
-Start the engine and allow it to idle until ECT is 167E F (75E C) or more.
-Raise the engine speed to 3,000 RPM for ten (10) seconds.
-Idle engine with the A/C on (for additional load) for 15-50 minutes. (If no A/C, set parking brake and chock wheels. Once immobilized, idle vehicle in drive).
EVAPORATIVE (WITH NO LEAK DETECTION) MONITOR DRIVE CYCLE
Certain Models 1996-2000
Pre-Conditioning Requirements:

-IAT is 41E F (5E C) or more.

Got the radio taken out, the new hood struts in (yay!), and hooked this guy up. Such a nice tool to have for $70. I'll find a better, more permanent place for it eventually, but for trouble shooting it'll stay here.

Guess I haven't done a great job keeping this updated... Highlights:
All the idiot lights are gone! new VSV, gas cap, O2 sensors (bank 2 sensor 1 SUCKS), some brake light bulbs and it looks less like a string of Christmas lights! All of the OBD2 monitors are showing ready to test, so next week it's off to emissions testing!
This guy is in and I should have a pretty clean double din/nav/satellite radio/computer input/factory amp bypass and aftermarket amplifier install

I also rubbed off the awful factory gold pin stripe. Much cleaner.

I'll definitely be reviewing the sub enclosure once it gets here. I've always built my own boxes, but since moving to CO, I don't have a garage or any of my wood working stuff. It's 3/4" MDF and they built it to my specifications (as far as sub diameter, volume, and resonant tuning) for just over $150 to my door. Here's the current auction, but just in case somebody else wants to find it and the link is dead, search "GS300 subwoofer enclosure" on eBay and, if they're still selling them, it should pop up.
