This is absolutely amazing. I can't wait to meet up in the spring time. Hopefully the 99 I'm building will be ready!

Man, I am digging the new wheel set up. Are they just the Supra spec CCW SP500s or SP 550s?

Steve,

I'm pretty sure they are Supra spec SP500's.

Steve,

I'm pretty sure they are Supra spec SP500's. I may be the only one here but I liked the Classics on the car better

No doubt the SP500 set up is a great look. Although, IMHO I liked the Classics and the Meisters equally the best.

Thank you guys.

Yes, the SP500's are Supra MKIV fitment 18x10 front (I believe) and 18x11.5 rear. I got them years ago from a local exotic dealership that had several MKIVs for sale. The owner of the place said its easier for them to sell stock condition vehicles so they took those wheels off the car and replaced them with oem TT wheels. Definitely got a great deal on them. The rears sit a little more sunken in than the classics. They were originally raw polished aluminum but because it was such a PITA to clean them I had them powdercoated.

As far as which wheels I like more? Idk. The classics have better BBK clearance on the front. Actually, after a few days of driving on the SP500s, I noticed the brembo calipers made a small scratch on the rear barrel of the wheel from rubbing (or I am guessing small debris getting trapped between the rear barrel and caliper because the caliper itself clears fine although its a tight fit.

I got a new set of wheels for next year. Ordered a full set of Welds. The rears came in, already mounted the tires at work. Now I have to order the front matching set of wheels and probably R888 for tires.

Also got some new Mitsubishi EVO rear calipers and the Supra NA rear rotors,SC400 same part number. I ordered the SC400 oem rotors at work to clear the new 15" wheel setup. Currently have the calipers dropped off at my powdercoater to do them in silver with red brembo lettering to match the fronts. He is most likely going to do them full 100% powder (shoot red center first, mask, shoot silver, unmask and clear over everything. I've seen some other finished Brembos at his place and was amazed how nice they looked. Might even have him do the fronts at some point for a 100% match, but based on the samples I think we nailed the silver pretty damn close.

All your wheel choices have been great, but I think the classics look the best on your car.

What modifications are needed to fit the Evo rear caliper?

none, you just need the evo 8/9 rear calipers, pads, supra n/a rotors, and evo rear brake calipers bolts to mount the calipers to the knuckle. thats it.

A lot of the Supra guys are going in that direction. I take it you are switching to a 15 inch wheel? I had some before and didn't like the feel of the car so I switched back to 18 inch CCW C14s. They also clear the 15 inch Brembo BBK kits. The 305/35/18 R888s work really well with the way Larry has my boost maps set up. 5 different settings with boost by mph on each one ramping up more aggressively 1-5.

Def post some pics up of your Welds. I planned on getting some for the SC300, but was going to with 18/17 combo and use stock TT brakes.

Personally IMO....drag tires on the rear make the car handle like complete ****....unless going in a straight line

The huge sidewall gives to much flex and makes it pointless to drive unless doing highway pulls

That was my experience as well. I couldn't stand it and at 900whp it wasn't necessary to run them.

Honestly, I got 3 sets of wheels for this thing at this point. Going to switch to R888 on both sets of CCWs next year because my local friend swears by them on his Supra that makes about 650whp on SP's dyno.

I do have experience with the drag tire package (again my friend has a set for his car) so I fully know what to expect as far as ride/handling characteristics. To be honest, I could give a crap about taking hard turns at 100mph on the SC. It's not meant for. I don't take it to a race track so for my driving style (doing straight line pulls way out in the middle of nowhere in the countryside of Mexico) the Welds should do just fine.

Worst case scenario if I hate how they drive on the street I'll just set them aside and use them on the drag strip on occasion since there's one near by.

Tuan? I have the R888s on my 6-speed car as well. Tune by with boost by gear and traction control by Larry at SP on all 5 boost settings in the PRO EFI. Each one more aggressive from 1-5 settings. In the warm weather here in southern IN from about late May-Late Oct I can run setting 5 no issues. It makes low 900whp on a 6766 fully built motor, etc. Our cars are pretty close except I am running 10/1 compression and have the PHR intake manifold. I have a really good alignment from a race shop called Track One in Nashville. That along with the traction control and boost by gear makes it hook wonderfully with no drama. I had the 315/30/18s and upgraded this year to 305/35/18s. Those are the size I recommend as they are 1 inch taller than the 315s and that allows you to hold each gear longer and also provides a more front to back contact patch vs the 315s.
