So lil update on my daily driver.

Searched up a Carfax, turns out the cluster had been swapped with one that read around 145k miles when the car actually had 217k miles. I calculated it and came to the conclusion that this SC actually has 315k miles!! Don't know whats original or not, but it purrs!

Since the 8k I've racked up on it, it has developed an odd issue. Does not matter what temp it is outside, or where I'm driving, but almost every morning and evening coming and going to work, it will come out of gear and into neutral, then involuntarily pop back into drive or reverse, whatever the case may be. Trans shifts absolutely flawlessly so it must be a loose connection to the shifter.

Control arms are being installed. Also got the radio working. The stock nakamichi amp was blown. Radio works great, but now the subwoofer doesn't. Oh well, may have to re wire the harness...

Installed 25mm spacers on the rear with the RX-8 rims and Ecstas.

How it sits as of now.

CA emissions on this car is soundproof. So I removed the two resonators post mufflers and changed them out with a 2.5 pipe on each side. Sounds a tad better under load, but not loud enough for me. Bought some N1 mufflers that I'll throw on there and hopefully that will make it kosher. It's my DD so anything remotely close to straight pipe is a no go lol.

Other than that, restoration/upgrades have been slow. Will post a sound clip soon of the car how it is now, and after the 2.5 to N1's.

Sounds a whole lot louder when it is cold. Once warm, the sound is a lot quieter. (as orthodox with a lower idle)

Glad to hear! Be assured though, it sounds much louder than it is in person. Vids can be deceptive, as I've found out.

Yep.

I like the way the car sounds from the outside in a quiet area.

But inside the cabin, and when there's other road sounds, it's very tame.

Who knows...perhaps if i get the other issues in order I may go for some mufflers next.

Thanks again. Your sc's look great

Nice I'll have to toss the resonators for the time being until the 1J is done. Good work man.

Was driving home in bumper to bumper traffic for about an hour and I peered down at the temp needle and it was a little below the red line. Incidentally, there was an auto zone right next to where I was sitting so I pulled in there and bought a thermo. Opened the hood and saw the radiator was hissing. Cool. Walk back in and ordered a radiator. Was able to make it back home with water by my side.
This is excepted, as the car has over 315k miles, and I rack over 30k miles a year in total on it.

A wise man once said that SC's were not for the generic soccer mom or commuter. I agree 100%. Let me add that it didn't and hasn't yet stranded me. Stuff like this makes me love the car more.

On another note, looking to purchase an IS250 or IS350 as a DD then use this as the weekend toy.

Is this your CA version?

So just has muffler delete, and the mufflers? Still has the three cats?

Yes, its the CA emissions. The only things that have been done is those N1's swapped out with the stock mufflers, and deleted the two resonators directly before the mufflers. Still has all three cats. No CEL.

So this beauty is no longer my DD, BUT I am most definitely not selling it! I still love to drive it almost as much as the IS350 I procured recently.

Anyways, replaced the radiator finally. I was lazy and didn't drain 100% of the coolant by unplugging the 2 drain points on the underside of the engine. Just drained the radiator and replaced it. It made things complicated when the hoses are 23 years old and are as hard as plastic around the collared metal inlet(s) to the hydraulic fan system. SO I had to replace the radiator without removing the fan housing. Don't ask me how I did because I don't even know how.

Also was able to fix the trans slipping issue. When cold, it would pop out of any gear, or when you stop suddenly. I assumed the trans was tired after 320k miles, but I was wrong. transmission is bullet proof, just had to top off the ATF and she's ready to go!

Next: Subwoofer (NOT aftermarket. I'm not a ricer)
