1992 SC300 Auto > R154 conversion
i just picked up an R154 and all of the conversion parts (I hope) from driftmotion. step one is the clutch/brake pedal assemblies. these are in a huge pile of small bits i need to assemble prior to installation. i dug through my SC and Supra MT shop manuals and I cannot find an illustrated parts breakdown of how all this goes together. does anybody have these? ill post pics as this swap moves along.

i found an exploded view of the clutch pedal assembly so ill post that later with pics of it together, i need more grease so im running to the store. also working on shifter/extension. i think i will repace the OE plastic auto shifter bezel on the center console with a milled aluminum piece with gates, i dont like the OE plastic shifter bezel. gated shifters just look awesome anyways.

W58 on the left, R154 on the right. W58 needs rebuild then sell. 5M bellhousing, JZ bellhousing, and 7M bellhousing. W58 needs a JZ bell also. old 6 puck clutch and PP sitting on 5M bell has 10k on em from MKIII supra R154 (1989 or 1990 i cant remember). those were ebay XTD parts. already coming apart. probably worse than a OE clutch/PP.
driftmotion forged steel flywheel
action stage 3 clutch via DM
action stage 3 pressure plate via DM. note toyota cast piece with swapped spring plate/leafs whatever theyre called.

im still working on cleaning up vacc hoses and wrapping/tucking wiring, then the engine needs the IC pipe fit and welded, and lastly the timing set. once the engine is ready to go ill actually pull the seat/dash/center console and gut the auto trans out, swap pedals/install master cyl, assemble R154, extend shifter housing, install shifter, install gearbox, install one pc. 3.5" alum drive shaft/TRD LSD, test drive make sure the R154 was actually rebuilt like seller claimed, then ill mock up and fab the gated shifter. it will be pretty generic, milled alum and cut/beveled to fit the space of the current plastic shifter. I might powder coat it grey or black or maybe a dark silver. i guess I can do away with that "power" switch? ill probably use a die grinder to open up the hole in the trans tunnel for the shifter to have more room, and make some kind of upside down boot to mount underneath that i can open and get lint or loose change out of. maybe something like this gated cover though, just contoured like the plastic part instead of small circle (but milled, i want depth not just some hacked pc of sheetmetal):

I also scored this 1993 toyota soarer R154 crossmember courtesy of a clubmember:
im tempted to throw this in the media blaster the next time i clean parts, then also have it in with the next batch of parts to be powder coated as this is such a great piece.

today as a side project im going to start lathing a brass shift **** to go on the beech performance R154 short throw shifter i also got. im aiming for something really heavy, in the 1-2 pound range, I was going to use steel but i have this great looking chunk of brass I will put to use. ill post pics later. i was thinking of a ball like in the pic of the lambo gated shifter above but i think ill make it an oval/oblong; the added height will add a little extra weight. more weight=less pressure to move the stick. ide like this thing to shift like butter with one finger.

Damn cool project you've got going.
I've switched back and forth between a few different round and oblong (somewhat oval) shift ***** in my M/T car, and I always end up going back to the oblong one after awhile. It fits the hand more securely, even though round wins on aesthetics. And I agree, the heavier **** usually feels better, helping engage with less force.

yeah i agree, oblong ones are better than the ball ones. plastic shift ***** feel too light. where in Oregon are you? once i get it up and running itd be fun to meet other SC owners/clublexus members.

hopefully I'll have it done by next summer. heres the start of the shift ****. this was abnormally hard brass when i started to cut it, maybe it was heated and dropped into water or something. it looks like it used to be a drift or punch, but its pretty big so maybe not.
I'll have to wait until the trans is in and it runs well so i can see right where the shifter goes and make a gated shifter cover out of cardboard first, so its open enough and not hindering the movement of shifting.
