Default Dubbayoo's '92 build

My parents bought this '92 LS400 around 1994; it was a trade-in at my uncle's Toyota dealership in SC. It's never really been driven daily til 2011 when the transmission on my '89 Mazda 626 went out. My mother had an ES350 by then so she just gave the '92 to me for nothing with 140K miles on it (165K now). That was fine by me because I always hoped it would end up mine someday anyway. My dad made sure it was maintained regularly.

I had already nicknamed it The Equalizer because of the mobile phone in the armrest.

The Equalizer was an American television series that ran for four seasons, initially on CBS, between 1985 and 1989. It starred Edward Woodward as a middle aged retired intelligence officer with a mysterious past who helps people in trouble. He drove a Satin Black 1984 Jaguar XJ6 Series III with a car phone back when only the very wealthy had car phones.
1992 Lexus LS400
Jade Pearl, 4.0-liter DOHC 32-valve 90° V8 250HP, Leather package, Memory seat system, Power tilt and slide moonroof; kamichi Premium 280 watt sound system, Trunk mounted 6-disk CD changer, Built in Hands-free cell phone system.

This is basically how I took it over, though this looks like after window tint.

The first move was Eagle Eye headlamps and 5000K HID bulbs and clear corners. I miss my fogs so I may redo those wires. Not sure if you can tell but I spray panted the grill with Plasti-dip; got that from rome99LS. I need to hit it a few more times though.

Next was the stereo - Pioneer AVH-X5500BHS Multimedia DVD Receiver with 7" Motorized Touchscreen Display; got the SiriusXM activated too. I used a Beat-Sonic SLA-20 adapter kit and added a Beat-Sonic BCAM3 Rear Backup Camera. I also replaced the OEM subwoofer with another from Ebay (came in EXCELLENT shape) since my cone was destroyed from the sun.

It took me 2-3 broken antennas before I learned my lesson and stopped using automated car washes. This antenna only retracts down to 12". I couldnt find the wires to do the cell antenna thing so I unplugged the power in the bottom position.

Yesterday I put on some 18" SSR Vienna rims (from VRWheels.com) - staggered 8" front/9" rear - with Kumho 235/40R18 tires. I deliberately went with the same width all around so I could rotate all four; not sure that was as smart as it sounds so I doubt I'll do that again come replacement time.

As I was pulling into the shop to get them put on the clown next to me opened his door on me and tore up my right side. There's good and bad here. Some of the dent in the bumper was pre-existing although this definitely made it worse. The separation of the lamp and dent below it is what he caused. We exchanged info so hopefully it'll all get taken care of.

(that's neither him nor me in the reflection)

Interior-wise I've got a few LED bulbs here and there and a set of Futura Design floor mats. I went with beige to match the interior but they're already pretty beat up looking. I may get another darker set for the front. I've had to replace the master switch in the driver door to get the door locks working; need to do the same to get the passenger side window going up. I did the power steering tilt fix last summer - so simple.

I have dropped $3,000-4,000 on various repairs including A/C(it was converted long ago)

Still to do:
  • Shocks and springs to drop it down a bit
  • either a brake kit or just painted calipers
  • exhaust tips
  • re-upholder (preferably replace entirely) the driver seat; my 275lbs has destroyed it pretty quickly
  • paint job (it's Jade two-tone, not black)
  • I really want darker tint but what I have is legal limit in GA. I think I'm just going to risk it.
