92 sc300 5 speed
Hi I just picked up a 5 speed sc it's in pretty bad condition. I wanted to keep it a 2jz but don't know if I should build the stock NA motor or just go out and find a GT motor any suggestions?

It all depends on your goals and budget. How many miles are on the car? I would check the compression and everything and it will determine if its worth building the motor that is in the car or rebuilding or buying a gte motor. Post up pictures of the car when you get a chance.

Thanks guys. I want it to be a well rounded car. Looking to get at about 500hp. It's the closest thing I can get to a supra. It's my third one but first 5 speed. Wanna make it a clean, well performance vehicle. Might consider shows later but would like to just enjoy driving it on sunny days. My plan 1st will be to go ahead and do the GT swap then the body and will reprint it white. Suspension, wheels, and then interior. Pretty much wanna keep the body stock. Please send post pics of your guys project. Would be awesome for ideas.

Im in the same boat as well....I have 169K on my 2jzge...but im not sure if it would be worth it to do a rebuild or just go GTE......I have been trying to get mine to run right for the past few months and it doesnt seem to getting any better. I know the debate has been beat to death on NA-T, 2JZGTE and 1JZGTE....but...for the amount it would take to do a full rebuild on the 2JZGE it would be close to the price of a 2JZGTE (motor only) and rock the W58 until it blows. Good luck on the build.

266k miles is a long, long life. Though we've seen a few members in the upper 300k miles with boost, this will involve a complete rebuild. Remove the valve covers off and take a look. If it looks like the bottom of a fire pit, then it might be worth scrapping. Though it's a 5spd already, it won't hold 500hp. So you might as well sell the tranny (which is worth more than your engine). You'll have the pedals and master cylinder ready, so that is a plus.
I guess just ask yourself how much money and time you're willing to throw into it.
