Default Another GTE Swap...

Hello all!

I thought I would post some info, and pictures, of my GTE swap, in the hopes of maybe proving helpful for other members in the future.

It came time to service my original GE engine, so I thought instead of spending the money on that, I would swap to the GTE, and service it before the install. For now, I just want a completely stock swap, and will modify it in the future.

I knew I wanted a front clip, and completely stock, so I looked around. I prefer purchasing a front clip, that way I can start the engine, and hear it run, before purchasing. I looked at a few locally, and decided on the best one.

Front clip shopping...

I serviced as much as I could, in the clip...

Then came time for pulling the GE...

GE vs. GTE...

Dropping the GTE in...

I made some changes to the rear turbo inlet...to avoid having to destroy the heater hose thingy too much. Also custom power steering line, using the Aristo fitting at the pump.

I will be running a stock Aristo fuel pump assembly. Using the stock metal line currently in the car, as the feed. I ordered a new GS metal feed line, that I will modify, to be the return. I am not a big fan of running braided lines, as many do with this swap. When I start modifying, and fuel requirements increase, I will figure it out then.

Thanks for the kind words!

Ran into some problems today.

First off, I swapped over all the additional stuff...aside from the engine. Intercooler, piping, air box, and such.

Next came the driveshaft, and rear end. This is where I had problems. The diff went up fine, then installed the driveshaft.

I tried to reinstall the heat shields, and they no longer fit. It seems the driveshaft carrier/ center support bearing is too low when bolted to the floor.

I'm not sure how to solve this problem. Possibly the incorrect driveshaft?

When mounted to the car, the GS carrier bearing bracket is pretty much on center. That is, in relation to the bracket mounting surface, it is on centerline of the driveshaft diameter.

The aristo equivalent is not on center. Causing the majority of the carrier bearing to hang lower, than the GS. Hence why the heat shielding no longer fits.

This became a further problem when I decided to move forward, and install the exhaust. There is almost no clearance between the exhaust, and the carrier bearing.

I decided to just install the exhaust anyway. I will have to remove it again to sort out this driveshaft problem.

That's it for today.
All that's left is to run the fuel return line, sort out the driveshaft issue, and wire it up.
Not much remaining...but this driveshaft problem has me a little worried...

We'll see...

I really like where this build is headed!

Plan on selling the rest of the clip once you're done?

I was gonna keep a few things, and dump everything else when finished.

But, what do you need? Something specific? Or you just want the full cut?

Not much to report today....bit of a lazy day.

I tackled the fuel return line, and fuel pump. Also added fluids under the hood, and looked over the wiring a little.

As stated in a previous post, I purchased a new GS feed line, to run as my return. I don't have pictures of the whole process...but its fairly easy. If anyone has questions, just ask away.

New GS fuel feed line...

So I fit the line up, and cut off the threaded end. Then flared the line, to re-create an OEM style, so the rubber hose is less likely to pop off.

Included with the front clip was a short piece of metal return fuel line. So I did the same to that. Cut it a little shorter...to get a clean cut, and flared the end of it. From there it was just a matter of connecting the two with a short piece of rubber hose....done!

Next was the pump. Pretty straight forward. Remove the GS pump, install the Aristo pump...like for like. And add the second rubber fuel line for the return, out of the pump. Back underneath, connect the rubber line, to the metal line just installed.

Pump Comparison...

Aristo Pump installed...

Fuel Lines Installed...

Some differences in the right, and center splash shields, from the Aristo to the GS. Comparison pics...

The right one on the aristo has some cut-outs to allow air to pass thru the intercooler.

The center has a sort of scoop, diverting air to the exhaust manifold/ catalytic converter.
