Default 2jzgte SC - second edition WIDEBODY 3.4 liter stroker / 6 speed V160

I have decided to start another build thread for my second 2jzgte SC swap project. This time instead of using a built auto tranny , the plan is to use a 2jzgte with Getrag V160 6 speed. I bought the drive train more than a year ago so time to make use of it. If funds will premit , I will go with a 3.4 liter stroker built motor. Am sure it will be a lot slower build than my other 2jzgte SC since funds are getting tight ! This time though , I want a widebody for this car.

As many know I towed this car to my place north of Atlanta more than a month ago. I traded my basically new MKIV Auto TT differential with this car. The former owner have been having issues with it not accelerating from stops or on up hills. After replacing basically every part he can think of and because of some personal injuries, he decided to give it up. The car is a 1992 Lexus SC400. The one thing I liked about it was it had a clean carfax history. It was a southern car so rust was not a problem.

On the day I got it , I rented a uhaul trailer .

When I reached the place of pickup which was 130 miles from my place . I snapped some pictures of the car and the parts that came with the car.

Got it home safely

Next day , inspected the car so I know exactly what I had and test drove it to confirm the hesitation and problem

I have replaced the front bumper since I am not a fan of the 97+ front bumper. If it was an Auto Couture style , I would have kept it. I traded the fog lights that came with it with a 95 front bumper

After a little bit of work. it is now a good running car , everything working on it including AC and sound system . This is how it looks as of today.

First thing I would work on with this car is the body.. I want a widebody. After a couple of days searching the internet and looking at SC widebody pictures, this is the car whose quarter panel wide body and front fender I want to have. Anybody knows more info or have more pictures of this car ? For the front bumper and side skirts, I would prefer that of the Auto Couture and not the one pictured.

Without more info , looks to me that widebody is a custom one and not a pre-fab FRP . So today I decided to cut the quarter panels of my parts car and see if I can beat it up and mold it into the project car. I would prefer a metal wide body anyway.

This should be good! Are you going to widen the door?? Looking from the picture of the wide body black sc300, it looks like they started widening from the door panels, about 4 inch in.

Looks like the widening starts from the door. The doors I believe are stock . The picture from behind shows some shadows on the door as though the widening starts on the door. It seems to me that the widening is also from the body line downwards so it looks like a huge overfender under the body line . Again this is a learning process as I go. So if someone has more info about this car or even pictures . I will really appreciate it . I will try to aim for the widest tire that can possible fit on that wheel well so I can really have good traction.

Hopefully I can do it.. Some fears and hesitations on my part since this will entail a real body work but will get err' done. If not , then we will have to ask the help of the professionals. Just another challenge and learning opportunity . Thanks for the encouragement !

Do you have a welder? If you do it wouldn't be too hard. You take some rods and mount the rear quarter panel as far out as you want the wide body to be. Then fill in the voids with sheet metal. Tack it slowly so you don't warp the panel from heat. Grind the welds smooth bondo guide coat sand away.

I wouldn't have cut it off like that. I could keep the quarter panel On. Make like pie cut and move the cuts out as far as you want your wide body to be. This way you can keep the factory lines.

I'm looking forward to seeing this build.

Will you be keeping the car the same old man tan color after the widebody?

It looks like he cut up his parts car, not the car he is actually going to use.

Thought he was using it as a practice car. Like a trial run.

I have the pictured welder to play with.

I figured it would be easier to work with it if the quarter panel is out from the car. Having an inside liner will be tough to work with it. I wanted to see also if beating it up would work. Also I believe , I cannot just make pie cuts from under the body line then extend and weld. Looks like they added a portion of metal under the body line other wise you will have a big wheel opening. I have to maintain same wheel opening . If you compare the height of the tail light and the distance between the body line and top of the wheel that part of the overfender is wider now or at least the same height with that of the tail light. Check the original distance between the body line and the top of the wheel... it is smaller. So I am sure they added the wide body part way below the body line maybe 2 or 3 inches below the body line. I am not sure if I am being clear with my description.

Let me see if I can explain better in pictures .

The height of both on doubled arrow are almost similar on this wide bodied car . I believe the one below the body line to top of wheel is even wider since it is actually flared already .

On the original the distance between the body line and top of wheel is smaller which means the flared portion was added way below body line

I can't just also do pie cuts and extend / flare them and then weld otherwise you will be increasing the diameter of your wheel well / opening.

Looks to me , the part enclosed in yellow was the one flared / added .or molded .. whatever you call it. Now if I do or make that out of the quarter panels I am cutting out of the parts car and then get it welded to the project car , it will be a lot easier to get the desired shape or mold.

Thank you sir . The car will be white or black in color as pictured .. the Black Mamba with tan interior since I have the Red Mamba with black interior .

Yes I cut up the parts car so I can experiment easily and I eventually need to take out that parts car out of my place anyway so I am taking everything that maybe be eventually useful to me in the future or that I can sell so to recoup some funds out of it.

True ! I just figured it would be a lot easier for me to work on it out of the car and see exactly what I am dealing with behind that quarter panel. Maybe you can lend me your welding skills.. lol .. am still learning .
