Engine vibrates like an ISIS hostage, it needs a power steering pump, rack and pinion leaks, oil leaks, front subframe is rusted, water leaks in the cabin and flooded the carpet, rear calipers are locked up, requires e-brake shoes, needs new shocks/coilovers, could probably use front LCA's. Then it's got the typical BS like crappy needles from Lextech, bleeding AC control, driver airbag doesn't work, heated seats no longer work...etc. It's seriously a piece of junk with a 97 kit, fake wheels, and mufflers.

No time + no money = no car

My wife is a stay at home mom so I only have one income to pay the mortgage, car payments, insurance, utilities, cell phone, cable bill, groceries, diapers, clothes, gasoline, and credit card payments. Believe me, it's still not enough and I end up sucking cash from my savings quite a bit. My side business previously funded my SC but times are tougher in the Tabaka house.

I could really use a good car friend in my area to help me out. I've had a few mechanics look at it but in the end it's all about how much money I'm willing to invest. I got real close this summer to a swap but I pulled back at the last sec. I'm probably glad I did because the AC compressor blew at the house in July and that one cost me a fortune.

Either way It's not going anywhere as I'll never sell or part it. It's a reminder of the good financial times and a personal achievement of my hard work.

I seriously feel for you man. I'd do just what you are doing. Just sit on it for a bit. Things will turn back around and you can figure it out then.

So sorry dude!

At first I was like, damn this dude really hates this car. He's been nagging about it for a while, and its understandable, but come on dude...
Then i read the last sentence and it made me happy. Yes, this is a car you had a lot of love for, and this love will come back once things come back up for you and the fam. It's not costing you money to keep it.

I actually have similar issues with my SC400. I bought it in '08 and it was the first car I really cared about, and modded. Then I bought a SC300, and all my passion went into that. Plus, I have a company car, so the SC400 barely gets driven. My sister dailied it for almost a year, then the power steering went out and it sat. I finally got around to replacing the rack and the cooling lines, but the car still has a bunch more issues to make perfect. Everyone says to sell it but I just can't bring myself to do it, because it has sentimental value.

I'm sorry. Jeez how did it end up like that? Abusive previous owner?

I might have an update soon. A mechanic friend is going to help me replace the crossmember and engine mounts in the month of April. After that I'll work on some of the nagging issues that will help pass a safety inspection. I start a new job on Monday that might help with the financial issues, and I hope that this car can get on the road by summer time.

She's back up and running at about 90%. It still shakes with acceleration so I'm leaning this towards engine or a tranny mount. I'm going to replace them this summer. However, a lot of hard work and effort has been involved with getting her back on the road. In the past two weeks, a good set of friends and I replaced the crossmember, upper control arms with poly bushings, LCA poly bushings, tokico blues, stainless brake lines, new rear calipers, and recharged the AC. I still need to locate a PS leak which is most likely the pump, and install new engine / tranny mounts. It's perfectly fine to drive and I plan on taking her to work tomorrow for the first time in 15 months!

Great update Shane. Real good to hear that you've been able to give your SC some TLC.

The car stalled on me this weekend. I was letting it warm up on Saturday morning and the idle dropped very low, and then it stalled. It started right up and I turned on several accessories including the lights, radio, etc and the RPM's went back to a normal level.

This car is a never ending frustration. I'm going to clean the IACV and jump the diagnostic port for any possible codes. The CEL light isn't on. The only other thing I can think of is old gas. I had about an 1/8 of a tank of old gas that sat in the fuel cell for a year. I put about 1/2 a tank of fresh premium gas last week but maybe the old gas is causing an effect.

Probably just need to get the bugs out of her......A car sitting for that long...that gas probably has water or something in it

Did you treat the old gas while it was sitting?

Nope, just poured in fresh gas and was hoping for the best. Maybe I'll add some fuel treatment and some fresh gas this week. I've had this issue in the past, but the it was a dirty IACV. I also had a similar issue with a MAF several years ago.

I got this in the mail today. New powersteering line with fittings and crush washers. I got it on eBay for $60. I'll install it this weekend along with a new PS pump.

I haven't visited my build thread in a while, and thought I'd give everyone an update. In the early spring time of last year, I replaced the rusted front subframe, installed new poly control arm bushings on the LCA's, installed brand new UCA's with poly bushings, installed new Tokico Blues (kept the Espiler springs), new stainless brake lines + fresh bleed, and mounted new tires. Here's a pic of some of my local friends providing me with a hand. As you can see, I have the classic Lexus "stick" holding up the trunk.

The vehicle still shakes around 1,000-1750 RPM's, but smooths out over 2k. It's completely fine under 1,000 as well. It's a strange issue that I'll hopefully tackle down the road. The idle sometimes drops pretty low if I put the car in reverse which is unique.

I found out where my passenger floor leak was coming from. The sunroof drains are clogged and rusted a hole in the slider bar. I used some 2-part epoxy which I thought would do the trick. I tested it out and I thought it was fine. Then the leak happened once more and I was PISSED. I decided to ghetto rig the sunroof and wrap the entire area with matte black vinyl. I wrapped the roof already (you can go back a few pages to check it out), and I decided to just cut some strips of vinyl and overlay them along the sunroof seams. It worked like a charm, no more leaks!

My cheap Autozone brake pads pour out dust, and ruined my wheels. There's nothing I can do except for strip the clear and polish them (or buy new wheels!). I need to get some new pads for the LS calipers. Let me know if you guys have any recommendations.
