To beef up ignition on the Old Man Tan , I decided to get an HKS Dli and instead use my M&W Pro 16 CDI currently installed, eventually on the Black Pearl . Found one without connectors so I fabricated the harness with its connectors and installed it . It is always good to have better ignition especially at higher boost levels.

I am considering the built atf a340e, would you recommend it? I am planning on 700-800whp driven often so that is my only dilemma in choosing a transmission. Thanks in advance!

Go for it ! For that power goal the ATF built A340 will handle the torque and power . Just avoid using the overdrive since it has the least number of clutch packs. I always turn that switch off on my end.

Perfect! Thanks for the heads up... I will probably only use the overdrive on highway when I'm just cruising anyways. Thanks again!!

Since I am still on a stock ECU on the Black Pearl which has a stock 2jzgte VVTi / V160 6 speed , decided to get a gauge pod for both the left and right pillars and some AEM gauges which arrived today. In the future , depending on the aftermarket ECU I will be using , monitoring parameters may change accordingly . I am not sure if it is worth using a Motec Dash if I go and use the Motec ECU. I was looking at gaugeArt and doing more research about it.

Done installing the driver side gauge pod , tomorrow I will work on the passenger side. This will look like just the Old Man Tan where I have a gauge pod on both left and right pillars.

You just need to disable O/D at WOT so it doesn't shift into 4th under full power. Otherwise you are golden.

Gerrb,

I found this on YouTube and thought you might be interested, I've put a lot of thought into it and for me to fix and do what I want to my current cluster it'll cost a little less than getting and installing a complete gauge set and getting rid of the factory cluster altogether.

Just putting this out there it seemed like it would interest you.

This past weekend I bought and brought home another 2 1997 SC300 for which I wanted the interiors so the interiors of my 4 2jzgte SCs will be perfect. I also took the 97 body kit of one and installed it on Red Mamba II even if I know Craig (KahnBB6) loves the old lowered muscle look of RM2 when he saw it in person . Just finished actually transferring the kit !

Now I have 3 SC shells I don't need . If you are local and want a very cheap shell with a clean title , come around and choose. Well , sorry I got the best parts of the interior already ..lmaol . The 2 2JZGE engines are in great shape and the 1UZFE engine I have given away to a friend since they are useless to me.

Aw, you changed it! I'm telling you man... that car looked mean as it was when I saw it but a factory 1997+ body kit will look great on it too especially with those wheels. Are you going to give it a 97+ wing also? I'm biased about that older muscle look in the rear but I'm one to talk about changing things with a '97 front bumper on my car's otherwise stock '93 body Incidentally I have finally decided I will have my spare '92-'94 SC400 winged trunk installed on mine after all once I get it repainted and rebadged.

I can't wait to see you get your remaining Mamba interiors where you want them!

Did both of the 1997's have black interiors Gerry?

Craig , I will snap pictures once I have moved the interiors... one is black and the other tan interior. So I will have two SCs with full black interiors and one SC with black and tan and another SC with brown and tan BUT all 4 will have really nice and almost perfect interiors once I am done. No I am not going with any 97 wing . I hate that wing. I will have 3 wingless and one with the 92-94 wing. Two will have the APT Tech Poly U Body kit , one will be a 97+ body kit and the other will have a 92-96 look (96 front bumper).

I am posting the following info as feedback since I know a lot of people are going through my thread. Dang in 4 1/2 years .. .this thread will soon have 700k views and thanks to everyone who follows it. After having done a lot of research between the CD009 and Tremec Magnum :

Tremec (T56) Magnum will be the best bet as an alternate for the V160 6 speed . After having helped and seen my two buddies with the CD009 and their twin clutches on their cars one a MKIV and another a 240sx , I have finally made up my mind that the CD009 is not the way to go for me as an alternate to the V160 6 speed . I want to preserve the two brand new V160 I bought before they were discontinued as reserved for my V160 cars, having 5 of them now. In light of my desire to convert one of my SCs from auto to 6 speed , I bought a new Tremec (T56) Magnum ($3050) which can hold 700 ft.lbs of torque at stock configuration .. got it built (some better parts replaced and added , CRYOed, REMed) and now can hold +900 ft.lbs. at least on paper, well of course that cost me some on the build. The V160 6 speed on paper is only rated below 500 ft.lbs. . The available clutches and having been proven at high 2JZ application were my deciding factors. ClutchMaster has different clutches for the Magnum. And this brand is a well proven clutch in the MKIV V160 6 speed world. Joel had been abusing this trans on his MKIV on the track. He made 1700rwhp , don't remember well the torque though. It is pricier than the CD009 option but I will rather go into pricier but well proven setup for high 2JZ applications. What dismayed me on the CD009 are the clutch options. One of my friends received a Dual QuarterMaster and the other a Dual Power Train Tech clutch from the same Adapter Provider. So I believe a lot of experimentation is still going on by the providers on which is a better clutch options . And I hate to be throwing money here and there for them to experiment at my cost. I don't know of any one using a triple yet and so truly the CD009 being tested on a high 2JZ application is no where to be found yet. Both CD009 applications on the MKIV and 240SX of my friends are so noisy.. like a tractor . After hearing both cars , that made my decision not to go with CD009. Main thing is it is because of the available clutches. The twin disks provided have button flywheels ... nothing to absorb the harmonic distortion of the crankshaft which can be very harmful to the transmission also.

And to top it , we all know that the Tremec (T56) Magnum are used as the aftermarket transmissions for the high hp domestic torque monster cars we all see around like the Vettes, Viper , Mustang , etc ...so they are really proven .

Craig - you have seen in person the interiors of my cars . Some of them have really good ones. But I simply couldn't let the latest cars I got pass across me without grabbing them when I saw their interiors . They had immaculate original interiors. I haven't started moving interiors but let me give you a sneak peak of one of the 1997 SC300 ...

I wish Ali was near me and let him enjoy building an NA-T with all the 2jzge low mileage drivetrain and shells I have now after having grabbed more SC300 for their interiors. He will be like a kid on a candy store. I am just not into the NA-T world . Been spoiled with all the GTEs I have as you have seen when you were around in my place up North of Atlanta. Got a 97 SC300 in a collision and salvaged whose 2JZGE engine only has 108k miles and so will be perfect for an NA-T . Engine purrs like a kitten .... so smooth !

It's OEM / original interior and is one of the best I have ever seen for a 20-25 year old SC with a tan interior . It was a low mileage car I would say that is why . So am moving this to the old man tan for which I am now decided to get it painted white.
