Default 97-SC300: My 2JZGTE build thread (TONS of pics)

Hey SC world. Hereís some pics of what weíve been doing with the SC over the past several months. Finally getting around to posting the pics. Got to drive the car yesterday and it pulls very hard. It feels like a different car now. Enjoy.

Hereís the SC before the operation:

Pics of the old engine already in the process of being removed. The 2JZGE had a good life, ran like a champ, but it was time to go bigger and better:

Started to take apart the interior to remove the old ECU, engine harness, glove box, center council, guage cluster, etc.

Hereís the 2JZGTE when it arrived. Looked relatively clean. I like that it wasnít power washed so you can really see the ďcosmeticĒ condition of the engine. Most of the coil connectors were broken when the compression test was done by the shop I bought it from. And a bunch of other broken things like the TPS sensor, most of the VSVs, etc. Pretty typical stuff.

2JZGE coming out of the car.

Some pics of the disassembled 2JZGTE. Freshly painted block. Cleaned and degreased the surface for the different oil pan as well as a new Toyota oil pump. Also took care of the (typical) leaking rear main seal with a new OEM unit. A lot of degreasing going on at this point.

Hereís the cylinder head back from the cylinder head shop. Fully cleaned, all new valve stem seals and a 3 angle valve job. The guy really did a fantastic job.

Some progress being made on the engine. Reinstalled the upper oil pan and a few other parts.

USDM 550CC injectors from a 20k mile Supra. Ready to go in.

Close up of the injectors:

The engine before putting on a new head gasket. Prepped the surface which proved to be very time consuming.

Another pic of the cylinder head from the other side. Right before being installed.

Installing the ARP headstuds.

New OEM TT headgasket.

Close up:

Cylinder head is on:

Here’s the engine bay after a very thorough degreasing. Now it’s clean enough to eat off of it.

Cylinder head fully torqued down (Thank you Snap-On tools). USDM cams installed. New cam seals, new OEM front main seal, new OEM water pump as well as lower oil pan.

More progress. New Toyota timing belt being put on. New timing belt tensioner. Re-installed the cam gears, upper water pump neck, and the oil filter adapter.

More progress. Serpentine belt tensioner was replaced a bit later with a new unit because of noise issues.

2JZ for life.

20k mile coil packs off a USDM Supra.

Close up of the USDM cams

Progress going at a rapid pace at this point. Props to my dad for taking care of the ugly old valve covers at the shop.

Close up of the USDM turbos off the same 20k miles supra:

The engine starting to look like something with the new Dr. Tweak harness with all new connectors.

New HKS BOV:

A few more pics from different angles of the work:

Newly painted valve cover in OEM platinum silver, gloss black lettering and some real hard ceramic German clearcoat on top. Thanks again to my dad for doing this.

Finally, the engine is in the car:

This is how we mounted the gauges in the car for an OEM look and not to clutter up the interior.

Random pic from the back of the engine bay. It looks so different now.

Got the Tweak harness tucked in and did some other work like the Supra TT resistor box, new PS reservoir tank, and the AEM unit

Got a shipment from Titan. New Fluidyne radiator for MKIV TT and a polished aluminum upper radiator pipe:

XS Power FMIC came also:

Hereís how the brand new TT radiator shroud looked right from the dealership:

Luckily, with these guys around it was a walk in the park:

Radiator installed as well as the air intake pipes and AEM filter.

I purchased an Max Air II air intake system from MVP Motorsports for a MKIV TT which didnít fit at all, so we decided to make our own:

Hereís the new PS cooler. Got rid of the oem monstrocity of a cooler (whoever done this, knows what Iím talking about):

Heatshield cut to shape:

Finished product:

More pics of the heatshield. That gold material is so expensive you would think itís made out of real gold.

And on the car:

Pic of the whole bay:

PS cooler in place:

FMIC installed. Pipes had to be modified from the MKIV fitment. Custom intercooler brackets. Once it was bolted down, it was as solid as a tank, canít move it.

Mines 2JZGTE 6spd ECU:

Reassembled interior after some quick detail work:

The final product:

The gauges:

Oh yeah:

New tires mounted all around after reassembling. Also finally got that TRD oil cap from backorder:
