Im not sure at this point to be honest, but thanks for all of the imput. Id love to hear from people with a welded diff (both ups and downs to it)
It's no biggie
I have a welded diff
And I have no trouble at all
Especially getting sideways
I had to initiate in first going like 20 with an open diff, now 40-50 in 2nd with no trouble at all
I actually like the welded diff
I put a plate on both sides welded the spider gears together and BOOM! No problemo
Don't have to be worrying like the people who just weld the corners on the spider gears

ya, bit frusterating, haha

anyways, i figured it would be easiest to put in a new p[ice because i can weld and drill out the spot welds really easily but i dont have access to any type of frame machine

so heres what ive been doing. Im weeding out all the wires i dont need/want. i think i changed my mind on motor setup so you will see what my new plan is going to be soon. for now im stripping everything out of the engine bay to do some repairs, paint, rad supports, etc.

also disassembling my front suspension/xmember/rack to clean. not going well to be honest. More frozen lca bolts (just like my rear end). and 1 swap bar mount bolt broke in the lca, so even if i cut out the frozen bolts i might need 1 new lca. not sure yet.

also started on my steering column swap. s13 one is going in. i will be making ned mounts so that they line up. I like this one because it is al manual. either that or im going to get an is300 one

** couple of tech questions
1) does an is300 rack have the same for mounting bolt hole locations as the sc300 rack? in other words, does it bolt right in?
2) does a 1992 dash (the one without the airbag) swap right over into a 1993?

or so, does anyone want to trade a black 92 dash for my black 93(comes with airbag)

I'm not 100% sure if the IS300 racks bolts in, but I believe 2JZCoupe here on the forums just had one mounted in his SC. You could probably find the answer in his build thread below

im probably blind being that i didnt see but it does look like he has a manual column (<corrected) of some sort but it looks like he ditched the stock dash bar and welded one in with his cage so my guess is that the mounting to that will be a custom made bracket of some sort

I completely misunderstood your question I overlooked that you were talking about steering RACK. I was thinking steering COLUMN. 2JZCoupe is running an IS300 steering column, but I'm unsure of what rack he is running. My bad man.

Car is coming together though! Good job!

haha, crap, my bad, no, i did mean the column, i keep saying rack on accident, even when talking to my friends when theyre over. sorry about that. ya, ive seen some people using other mechanical columns but they run a custom dash bar integrated with their rollcages and make a custom mount for the column. its not a big deal though, I think im going to be going with the s13 column that I already have. I will only have to modify the lower mount on it that I already cut off.

anyways, thanks for all the help. right now im in the middle of the mess of wiring, basically taking out all the extras that im not keeping and will be tubbing the front end soon. decided to leave the top rad support piece open and will make a lower piece.

I'm got a sheet of 15 gauge metal, going to be using that for tubs and the bottom of the frame rail, cut that piece up higher for clearance. Also going to be getting a nicer 220v welder, both mig and tig. Still have lots of items for sale, check out my for sale thread. I'm also looking for a 6 point bolt in cage. If I can grab a used one off classifieds that'd be sweet

got some trailer fenders off craigslist for my tubs. theyre super nice looking. so I have those now + some 15 gauge sheetmetal I got, so thatl cover everything in the engine bay. just sold my old pos harbor freight welder. flux core and it was like 70 max amp, junk. going to pick up a nice 220v tomorrow or tues, a nice one that will do mig or tig. then ill be able to get the engine bay fab done, then im going to tub the rear wells.

did some glAss on the bumper lip I just picked up too, filled the 2nd exhaust hole a some cracks, need to go back and smooth
next up looking for a pair of sideskirts and that will be the extent of body panels im buying.

its coming along

Holy cow, those looks great man. This is one thing that the good Lord didn't bless me with, was doing this kind of work with metal. Now this is a build thread.

thanks! this will be the most fab work Ive done yet, so hopefully it will all turn out the way im hoping.

so for my update
went to the picknpull and cut the piece of the chassis I needed out of a sc400 to replace the piece I bent and cut out.
I failed my goal, didn't get a welder yet. trying to figure out right now what power options I have. It seems like at the house theres a 240v setup for the air conditioner in one area and a 220v for the dryer in the house. all single phase so I think that's what my options are going to be as far as a welder goes. and I will need to put a larger breaker in place

also did some wiring removal and work in the trunk. Im basically done with the trunk as far as im concerned, the first part of the car that im done with, haha. and pretty much the least important and it was the least work. right now im doing all the wiring in the cabin.

havent posted in a bit. been working a lot, even today. got a couple of welders, a new 170 amp mig and an old miller tig/stick that i have yet to get wired in and set up. anyways i pulled the power cord out of the tig and used it as an extension cord for the mig. got the mig all set up and started using it tonight.

backtack a bit. i cut out my tubs, and yesterday i cut my shock towers up extra high for more clearance and in preparation for tubs. also cut out the pinch weld the runs along the top outside corner of the frame rail on either side for clearence and rewelded them

tubs should be in tomorrow. but i need to still looking for a dimple die set on cl to make a bunch of bracing for my engine bay and tubs.

work on the car has been slow, ive been working on a bunch of other projects as well. (like this fixe im putting together for school)

i didnt end up using the trailer fenders for the front because i wanted wider tubs so i used some pieces out of a 55 gallon drum. i am making huge tubs (hiehgt and width) for maximum wheel clearance in terms of overall diameter and ride height and steering angle at lock. this means im also cutting the frame rails up high to match and im tubing behind the shock tower with those trailer tubs

slow and steady wins the race, haha. should be more updates soon hopefully
