Hey everyone, my name's Davis, and I just picked up a '92 hardtop w/ 120k miles.



I had a '00 GS400 before this that I manual swapped to an R154. ****. That. Transmission. Sold it a couple months after I got it running. It sucked the fun out of driving with each and every throw of the gear lever.





Told myself I would be financially responsible and not to bury myself in another project car... and then this LS came into my life. With it's hardtop (hate sunroofs, it's either hardtop or droptop, no inbetweens!) glistening in the photos on craigslist, I met up and bought her the same day. And immediately felt buyers remorse as I was driving back home, only because now I'm back with a project car. FML. Malnutrition here we come again. Oh well, I can scratch off having an LS.

All I have to say is that I like the LS more than the GS. I love the LS' brake pedal feel. GS had a **** pedal feel thanks to that damn electro hydro booster bull ****.

Anywho,

I want to get coils and wheels, but first things first:







Yeah, 6MT swap even before maintenance. No point in keeping it or maintaining it if I don't like it after the swap.

Picked a '06 350z CD009 trans a few days after buying the car.

Trying to get the Wilwood clutch pedal that I hacked up to sit right before finalizing it and making it nice. Then I'll order the swap kit from Suprastore.

So, I tried to not care about this car in order to not spend a lot of money on it. As I'm waiting for the swap parts to come in, I was bored with the downtime, so I ended up ordering all the maintenance items, T belt, WP, Dizzy cap and rotor, wires, etc.

A little update on the clutch pedal.

So here's the mount I made, it's modeled after the parking brake bracket. Made out of 1/8" mild steel.



Then I made another bracket to mount inbetween the master cylinder and the clutch pedal bracket. This then bolts to the first bracket.



Gusset the 90 so it doesnt flex.



Cut the pedal to move it over. Had my buddy weld it because I suck at Aluminum.



And here's how it sits. It's not bad, still pretty ergonomic. I tried to keep the 6:1 pedal ratio, which is why the pedal is a bit lower.

Some maintenance items came in from RockAuto.

- Aisin tbelt kit
- NGK plugs and wires
- Beck Arnley VC gaskets
- Gates serp belt
- Gates 170 degree thermostat

Cam, crank, rear main seal, dizzy caps, and rotors are coming in from mylparts.com

This should keep me entertained until I need throw more cash at her.

Not much of an update, got the water pump off, and called it a day. It was puking from the front lh cam bearing cover (the one where the cam seals sit in, seal was dry though), and I did my best to clean it up, looks much better.

Glad to be on this side, the LS is more my style. I love boxes.

Got the engine somewhat back together.



From grandpa car to racecar with blue plug wires and OE caps and rotors.

Since I was in there, I replaced the crank and cam seals, plus the valve cover gaskets. Resealed the half and full moons too.



Terrible picture of this terrible job lol.





Replaced the coolant temp sensor since I'm there.




So I realized that the radiator top tank was seeping, and the thermostat housing has spider cracks. The throttle body gasket was a paper gasket that crumbled into pieces upon removal. Gotta order some more parts from Mr. T.

Damn, is this the definition of a project car or what?

Don't get a factory style rad. GO aluminum, no loss as you won't need the built in atf cooler anyway. Can get 1sc/2gs stuff to fit easily iirc, 2SC4 alum rads SHOULD have the radiator hoses in the right place.
