Spray paint on GF's car...any way to get it off?
I'm really upset by this. My girlfriend got a new silver g35 sedan a few months ago and she recently moved into an apartment complex which isn't in the best neighborhood, but it's not terrible. The other morning, she woke up to go to school and found a brown line across the width of her trunk. Supposedly, it's spray paint. I don't understand why anyone would do this to another person's new car. I especially don't understand why anyone would do this to my gf's car. She's the nicest girl that anyone could meet. She has no beef with anybody and is very nice to everybody.
anyways, i haven't seen the damage yet, but i'm wondering if there's any way to get it off. I was thinking that we can gently try using some rubbing compound. Would that remove the spray paint? or will she just have to paint the entire trunk?

Howie,
I'm going to move this to the detailing section and leave a redirect so you'll get replies from both forums. I think clay is your first best option, it got overspray from spray paint off of mine.

Mineral spirits will remove it and not harm the oem paint. Don't rub hard, and use a terry/cotton towel or rag.

i'm sorry to say but i don't think claybar will work. it wil make the spraypaint smooth though... i've had a little paint on my car that i tried to remove with claybar and no luck... hope i'm wrong and it works for you though.

I agree, clay won't work too well...
Mineral spirits AKA paint thinner. You can buy a quart of it at Lowes. Home Depot, or any ACE hardware store. It is a solvent and will remove uncatalyzed paint (such as a shaker can of spray paint ) , which is what is now on your car. It will not remove oem urethane enamel (your car's paint).
It's the safest solvent you can use to get the results you need. lacquer thinner will work too, but it's much harsher and contains xylene, which has been known to cause checking (tiny cracks) in clearcoat paint.
The longer it sits (dries) the harder it will be for anything to remove it, so act fast. Cheers.

that sucks damn those people.
maybe the way she parked was kinda crooked?
my gf lives in the west hollywood area, and the parking lot in those apartments are pretty small.
even i get irritated when those people can't park and leave enuf space for people to get out.
...just my guess...

Many people don't like it when some else has a new car. It could be someone who has managed be a failure in life and doesn't like the fact that she has a new car. Thats how the world is today.
