Getting out scratches
Trying a search on the forum turned up tons of threads, few if any which appeared to be what I was looking for, so....
Any info on used and recommended products/methods to get out scratches appreciated. I have a variety, but the main concern is some long scratches along the side of the car. They aren't deep. It's a light silver, for what that's worth. I researched products to do this (Maguires etc), but not only are there many brands, but so many types of scratcher-getter-outers it's ridiculous. How the bleep to know which to use and how? (Youtube wasn't much help either) Thx

For light scratches and blemishes, Meg's Scratchx 2.0 is very user friendly & cheap. It can be bought almost at any auto store, even walmart has it.
You can buff scratches by hand or with a polisher.

Thanks that's a good start, but neither thread said why to purchase the products mentioned (other than "they're good products" kind of thing which I assume).......i.e. there are many diff kinds or "grades" of compounds, polishes etc. Am trying to find some info on the diff's and why one vs the other, what people used that worked and on what kind of scratches, stuff like that. I'll post a pic later, but basically all but one are clear coat-level scratches, not through to the paint (one near the back is ).

Here's the very simple answer... you need 2 products to get you started... a cutting compound, and a fine polish. As you stated - there are many options, and everyone of us here may have different opinions on which ones are "the best". As someone who gets the opportunity to test out considerably more products than most people, I have recommended my personal favorite products.
Griot's Garage Fast Correcting Cream (cutting compound)
Meguiar's M205 (fine polish)
Here are some examples of what can be accomplished with a 2 step process using a variety of cutting compounds and a variety of finishing polishes
There are, however, MANY fantastic options for compounds and polishes, and every one of them will help you to accomplish your goal of removing superficial defects from within your clear coat. Just pick a couple products you'd like to try and give them a shot.
