Default How to reapply clear coat?

Long story short, someone door dinged my car and left a scratch. The damage went through the clear coat, just barely surfacing the paint primer. Is there a way I can touch up clear coat or do I have to sand it and paint the whole panel?

If you want it to look like it never happened, it will need to be sanded, filled, and repainted.

If you just want it to look better from 5 feet away, you can carefully apply some touch up paint to the area.

How much materials and labor is needed to sand, fill, and repaint the area? Will a touch up pen work?

It depends on what color your car is. Most body shops would want to blend a repainted panel into the adjacent panels, so a repair could cost anywhere from a few hundred bucks to over a thousand. You would have to get an estimate to understand what all is involved at a body shop. Depending on the size and extent of the damage, a shop may even be willing to do a more isolated spot repair... you would just have to go talk to a body shop.

Yes, as I mentioned before, if you just want it to look better but not perfect, touch up paint is the cheap and easy way to go.

And that blended mess will never look good, people that know what they are looking for can spot it miles away. Don't blend other panels.
