A polishing question
I am curious has anyone experimented using a paint thickness gauge when doing the various polishing techniques? Like how thick was the clear coat before and after removing swirl marks or other paint corrections? I guess they won't just check the clear thickness though, but a before and after should show how much was removed.

We use paint thickness gauges to inspect every vehicle. We use our gauge to measure in microns (since in my opinion mils is not a small enough unit of measurement), and there is so much variance between readings that it would be nearly impossible to take a reading in exactly the same spot to validate your results.
We use the gauges to identify particularly thin areas (areas of concern) or to show if a vehicle has been repaired/repainted.
Mike Phillips did a test that is the best I have seen and showed how little paint is actually removed with a wet sanding, compound, and polishing process. It is on autogeek, but I can't remember what it was called.
