A reverse osmosis system would be very inefficient for your use. RO systems are slow and you'll need a tank to store all the water it produces. Most systems waste 4 gallons in order to produce 1 gallon of purified water. You're better off getting distilled water from the supermarket. I've built a deionization system similar to CR Spotless and they work but the resin refills were expensive.

If my car gets really dirty, I wash using the traditional soap and bucket method right before sunset. Otherwise, I'll use ONR if the paint isn't too bad.

If you want spotless water, a Deionized System seems to be the way to go...

What's the difference between RO and DI water purification?

... if you just want to clean up your water then a RO system will be more than enough.

CR Spotless Systems
are popular and seem to work well. The downside is the cost of resin replacement, but luckily you can buy resin in bulk from other companies for MUCH cheaper than detailing sites will sell it. Click Here for cheapest resin replacement ($160 for 1 cubic foot compared to $260 per cubic foot on Detailed Image).
