A love it or hate it M car gets properly prepped for sale - M Coupe

This beautiful laguna seca blue BMW M coupe gets properly prepped for sale.

Here what we will be doing to the car -

- wash
- decon
- clay
- compound
- polish
- wax
- full interior
- engine detail

Paint correction - also known as swirl mark removal or machine polishing, paint correction is the reduction or removal of marks in the top layer of paint to produce a more refined finish.

Paint correction will involve machine polishing and various grades of cleanser, polish, or compound. The majority of work is usually done with orbital or rotary machine polishers to get the best level of correction.

Great paint correction requires a high level of skill and concentration, but done properly, paint correction can transform the look of a car by dealing all the issues discussed above.

Reasons to seek out paint correction services:

- Road grime, grit, tar
- Bird crap, dead bugs, and tree sap
- Water spots
- Improper wash techniques and products used
- People brushing against the car with their clothing or bags
- Holograms and swirls caused by lack of proper training and techniques
- Automated car washes

All of the above can leave the paint of a car looking imperfect - dull, faded, and covered in various level of scratches (from light to heavy), swirls, and marring.

For most vehicles, paint correction really can make a substantial difference and will completely remove or significantly reduce most marks. Once the paint correction is done the results will display amazing gloss, depth of color, and slickness.

We will remove
- 90% of deeper swirl marks.
- Remove etching from water spots and bird etchings.
- Remove and or reduce lighter scratches and marring
- Remove surface contamination
- Restore faded and dull paint
- Polish and bring back gloss and depth of paint

Will not remove the all swirls, or deep scratches. We will not be fixing rock chips at this level either.

Looks great! Nice work!

Question - when you took the clay to it, was the car wet/soapy? I usually wash and dry first, then lubricate with a quick detailer as I clay. What do you recommend?

Thanks,
Jeff

Jeff, you're right, using soap with claybar will ultimately destroy the clay bar and it will eventually start falling apart in chunks, probably before you even finish claying that car. Always use a quick detailer or some type of clay lube with no soap.

Jeff,

We will do both soap and clay lube, at the shop we break off the clay bar in a few pieces. Also for us we will use a clay bar piece once and toss it, I rather not risk any issues with it later, figure we will get 3-4 cars out of one clay bar.

Love the work, loath the car I would not even bother detailing it.

Thanks for the responses.

I was planning a full detailing day tomorrow to give my new GS a thorough detail and CQUK coating, but unfortunately last night my GS suffered some damage as a result of our current windstorm and is in the shop until next week. Grrr... Delayed gratification, right?

1. What pad did you use to get rid of the swirls?

2. Any reason why you used orbital vs. circular, I remember that circulars can remove swirls easier but are more aggressive by their very nature.

I tried to remove swirls from a black car some years back with an orbital and got nowhere with that. It was a G35 coupe. That's the reason I ask about the orbital vs. circular.

Nice job as always!
