Default Customary Tip for Detailer

I have a voucher for an auto detail, and it says "Gratuity not included." Is it customary to tip a mobile auto detailer? If so, what is customary?

Thanks.

If it's a sole proprietor, I wouldn't tip since it's all going to him anyway.

Lol this is how you determine if you should tip someone?

If you think someone went above and beyond the services you hired them to do, then a tip is always appreciated. As a detailer, I don't expect one, however many insist.

+1 Sometimes it's nice to have someone do it as well. As long as it's a reputable detailer. I wouldn't get a detail at a "car wash". Most of those guys don't care. Good Auto spas and guys like Zach pay attention to detail and don't rush to do the next car.

To the OP, whatever your heart says. I'm sure 10-20% would make a guy's day!

As to how much, I tip 15-20% of the cost or in this case, the value of the voucher.

This is what my wife has told me is customary at the hair salon--if the owner is the one that does your hair, no tip is expected.

Hey you let me detail your car, I TIP you instead of you tip me I'm running out of car to detail for fun now haha.

Anyways, I don't think it is required but 10% to 20% is good start. For my own mechanic, I usually buy him lunch or beer/wine and he appreciates that a lot more haha.

I think tipping is more customary for basic washes and those type of services.... not necessarily for bigger, higher end services like corrections and coating applications where the invoice is surely much, much higher.

Could you image a 20% tip from a Cquartz finest job! If it was an exotic, it would be different story. A couple of hundred would be pocket change!

Popping, 3k wow! This is the highest price I ever heard someone committing to protecting the paint lol. I had 3M clear bra full front and Opticoat 2.0 back many years ago for less than 1k total. I would have gone for color change wrapping with 3K budget or save some more for complete paint color change with some exclusive color.

Anyways, you are BALLER!!!
