I have a foam lance,

it doesn't really make your car "pop and shine" as it uses a regular car soap...if your car has good paint condition, then it will pop and shine no matter how you wash
i use dp xtreme foam and chemical guys maxi suds 2, as these are more "foamy" soaps

it's good for a pre-wash to get surface dirt and road grime off the car first
but you still need to get a mitt or sponge and put in some elbow grease if you want to really clean the car

once you let the foam sit, you MUST either scrub it or rinse with a power washer for all the foam to come off, else there will be residue left

Sorry for the noob question since I'm new to the forum, but I wonder if you've ever posted a DIY of you washing your car using the products you just named... If you have, would you mind posting up the thread. Every pic you post your car looks amazingly clean lol.

If you want to learn more on detailing you can visit autopia[dot]org forums
It's filled with weekend warriors of all levels and professional detailers
I've learned almost all I know from there

DIY doesn't really help in detailing because there are TONS of great products depending on circumstance
As well there are certain different ways of doing one thing, which none are wrong but some people might prefer one over other
Do some research on autopia and find what's best for you

Also autogeek.net is a good place for how-to's.

I'd really look into buying Mike Philip's 'The Art of Detailing' book. I haven't purchased it yet, but it has amazing reviews even from professional detailers. They give it two thumbs up and a must read for anyone trying to learn. It's highly detailed in every aspect of detailing.

^^^ yep what everyone said, you're gonna need to pick up a polisher or a DA, porter cable is pretty popular harbor freight sells a good 7 inch polisher you can pick up a backing plate for it at napa scherwin williams or on autogeek or autotopia the pads that come with it is garbage.

Also might be a good idea to post what color your car is other members with the same color will be able to recommend the products they used.

this is what I keep in my garage

foaming your car is a must IMO. i pamper my baby twice a week. if i've been driving in the rain,,, so much dirt from the road and dirt kicked up by the other cars,,, then i'll foam her twice. i use CG Honey Dew snow foam or CG Extreme Body Wash.
