Default rust spots on wheels

I recently purchased a Lexus LS430. Car has chrome wheels with what I am assuming are rust spots. I have used griot's garage heavy duty wheel cleaner with the finest grade steel wool...no luck. Picked up never dull yesterday...nothing. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Here is pic:

if those are iron deposits ON TOP of the chrome, than iron-x can clean that. if it's actually rust in the chrome surface than nothing is gonna save that. Good luck.

Is there any way to tell if its iron or rust...besides trying ironx?

take a clay bar and fully clay one of the spokes...if that stuff comes off the wheel and you have a smooth chrome surface, than you know it was iron deposits that built up and caked on over the years. Technically you can just clay each wheel without iron x but that would take a while and be a pita around hard to reach area. But it is a good way to test.

likewise if you have a paint cleaner or an AIO (all in one) cleaner/polish, just put some on a mf towel and work it in on one of the spokes...that will also remove the iron.

Chrome does etch at times. If its etching then you're better off getting them redone. Those could also be potential rock chips but we can only guess so much from pictures

From the photos and testing you've done I'd say that moisture has permeated the chrome plating and is causing delamination...time to replace the chrome plating

About a year ago, I bought some "Detail Magic Chrome Polish and Re-Plater" from Home Depot. I used it on a set of chrome '93 LS400 wheels and it helped tremendously. I'm sure you'll experience the same results.

I know the picture is small, but it's the only one I can find of the product.

Thanks for all of the feedback. Between here and detailing bliss, I have tried several recommendations and no change at all. As TOGWT pointed out...I think chrome plating is the next option. There are not many options here in Denver, so not sure when I will be getting that done.

Thanks again.

There are some wheel exchange companies that will take your old wheels and replace them with comparable ones for a charge, usually reasonable. I bought chrome wheels for my Supra and traded in the painted ones, for about $600 total. Search for wheel exchange.
