Default Exhaust Tips won't come clean

so the cars all clean and ready to come out from winter hibernation
and it troubles me how everything can come really clean except my exhaust tips
the black soot build up on the tips will not come off no matter what i try

can someone recommend a product that will make them shine again?

I used eagle one never dull wads. It works pretty good to get that sute off. http://www.eagleone.com/nevr-dull-wadding-polish

Ahem...soot.

And yes, nevr dull can be helpful, but have you tried something designed for cleaning wheels? I have found that Meguair's Quik Wheel Detailer is great at removing caked on brake dust and build up from carbon ceramic pads, and that stuff gets baked on by the brakes flinging it, so it might be worth a shot. Spray it liberally on there and be prepared to scrub a bit with a brush. Old toothbrushes work well for this, as do brushes that are made for cleaning pipes or stemware (long conical brushes with wire centers that are flexible). Kind of like a miniature wheel brush.

I use the same and have great results. You may have to pick at any chunks to get them to come off then polish it clean.

0000 steel wool. That is all you can use to make them perfect. That is all I use and it has tackled the worst of soot.

If you don't, then be prepared to build up some crazy muscle if it gets etched on and stuff

So you use the steel wool to scrub it off then use a Metal Polish? Or are you guys just using the metal polish?
