My 2011 RX has freckles! Help!
Washing my car this afternoon and noticed dark brown spots. Was able to get them off, but they left lighter brown spots behind. I don't think its etched because with some scrubbing, I was able to remove the light brown spots. But I'm not a fan of scrubbing, and my car probably isn't either.
Anyone have any idea what it could be? I will try to get some pics. If its from bugs, anyone have any recommendations for removal products/pre wash? I don't think its tar...I really don't know what it is, but its pretty much on every panel. Like I said, I'm not a fan of scrubbing, just because I feel like I'm going to damage the paint. Am I babying my car, or is it just a matter of needing more elbow grease?

No, I don't play soccer!
Freckles, LOL! They're cute but definitely not on a car.
It sounds like tar. They've been out patching for months now. The rain we had in March and April didn't help by kicking up the oil and asphalt while driving. I've gotten the occasional dark spot here and there on my Tungsten Pearl. Not to be confused with the orange spots, probably from going over railroad tracks a few times a day. Now those are a PITA to remove. I usually scrub a little and get the spots off easily when I wash every week or so. The RX was clayed and waxed a few weeks ago.
I would try bug and tar remover or even a little clay. Or if that doesn't work, have your RX visit a dermatologist

Clay won't hurt your car. In fact, it will make it feel smooth like glass
and it will get rid of all those freckles. You will need to seal or wax again though cause it takes that off too...
here's what you should do
wash
clay
paint cleaner
seal/wax
drive around and turn heads
and it will get rid of all those freckles. You will need to seal or wax again though cause it takes that off too...

But make sure to use an extra fine clay like Sonus:
http://www.autogeek.net/sonus-sfx-detailing-clay.html
An over-the-counter claybar (which are usually medium grade) or and aggressive clay in the hands of a beginner could potentially induce marring into the paint.
So:
1. Use a fine clay
2. Use lots of clay lube (like a quick detailer)
3. Turn the clay often to always use a clean side
4. Clay in cool environment (claying in the sun outside or when the paint is hot will almost melt the clay and make it sticky and leave residue on the car and WILL not do much to get rid of those freckles).
Good luck.

And make sure to put on a durable sealant or wax (I'd recommend Collinite 845 or 476S because it's cheap, gives an amazing shine, and last longer than most waxes on the market) after you have clayed the car and gave it a good wash to prevent these contaminants from bonding with the paint again.

don't forget to use a paint cleaner like Klasse AIO before you wax
I washed a silver car with dawn, iron x, then clayed and when I used the paint cleaner, my white polishing pad still had some blackness from the stuff pulled out of the paint...

They sound like tar, but they sound also like the fungal spores from Artillery fungus.
This fungus grows in the mulch at the base of plants and produces packets of spores that are fired into the air when they mature.
The only way to combat this fungus is to change the mulch regularly as well as raking the mulch to create a hostile environment for the fungus development.
Keep your car away from them after you remove the stuff off your car.
