I use Quik Interior Detailer sprayed on a microfiber. It doesn't leave the steering wheel slippery of greasy. It cleans well and offers UVA & UVB protection.

303 Aero Protectant is not a cleaner but if you don't need cleaning it is ok. It is a tad slippery and it smells like old gym shoes. 303 is a good protector but you said you were looking to clean the wood steering wheel.

OH. Lol. Thought it was a cleaner & protector. Does the Meguiar's Quick Interior Detailer would smell a tad old gym shoes too? Since protection products does emit some type of smell.

It's nearly odorless.

It is a cleaner, but so mild, it really wont remove many marks/scuffs, etc. Using a diluted all purpose cleaner like Meguiars APC can clean up some tougher spots. I dont think 303 has a lingering smell either. Yea, it doesnt smell so great right out of the bottle, but I've never sat in a car after applying it and wondered what funky smell that was. I consider it odorless once applied, and it has proven itself to be one of the best protection products available

I might be weird but I use Pledge wood polish to clean all of the wood in my car, and leatherique pristine clean on anything that is leather.

I actually really like how the wood feels after using the Pledge- the same smooth feeling as waxing the exterior of your car. It also gives it a nice shine, isn't oilily or slippery, and seems to hold up for a while.

I would recommend it

Pledge not oily or slippery? Clearly not my experience. If you drive in a winter climate wearing gloves you really want to be careful about putting silicone oil on the steering wheel. I'd also not be too keen on the long term effects of applying Naphtha and petroleum to the clear coat and take care not to get it on the leather wrapped portion of the steering wheel.

IMHO, Pledge is not a good product for this application.

Pledge MSDS:
Ingredients from MSDS/Label
Chemical CAS No / Unique ID Percent
Propane 000074-98-6 1-5
Isobutane 000075-28-5 1-5
Butane 000106-97-8 1-5
Water 007732-18-5 70-85
Polydimethylsiloxanes (Silicon oil) 063148-62-9 5-10
Naphtha, petroleum, light alkylate 064741-66-8 5-10

I wonder if there are different types of Pledge? I will have to look at the chemicals in mine when I get home. It's definitely not oilily, greasy, or sticky in any way after I apply. I spray on, rub/polish with a paper towel, and then the wheel honestly feels brand new- no residue. It also shines beautifully.

What are the effects of the silicon oil or naphtha?

Is there a better product for maintaining and properly caring for wood? I don't necessarily just want to clean it, but rather keep it shiney and well manicured.

Thanks

Bump! I need to know what is wrong with Pledge, if anything. I don't want to go out one morning and have my wheel crack off in my hands

They say the products leaves behind a greasy feel which is no good for steering wheel.
