Rust bubbles on leading edge of roof right above windshield
Hey guys. 99 GS4, 133,000 miles, daily driver, all highway miles.
I was washing the car today and I noticed some rust bubbles on the leading edge of the roof, right above the windshield. I'd say the affected area is maybe 2 inches wide and 1/2 inch back. I have quite a few stone chips along this edge, and it looks like the rusty area might have been hit by a stone. For what it's worth, the windshield was changed out 3 years ago.
Three questions:
(1) Can it be fixed without repainting the entire roof?
(2) Can it be fixed without removing the windshield?
(3) If I don't have it fixed, is it pretty much a sure bet that it will get worse (probably a stupid question)?
Let me know what you guys think. I can post pictures if need be, but I think you get the idea. Thanks.

I've got the same issue. Mine is a 98 GS400 with 236K miles. I bought it at 156K about 5 years ago. In that time it has basically doubled in size (1.5" x 1.5"). I put touch up paint on it every year which I believe retards the growth somewhat. I've had no leaks so I don't see the sense in trying to get it fixed. Obviously it's your choice, but unless there is moisture coming through to the inside, you've got lots of time to decide.

My guess is that when your windshield was replaced it was not done properly and the seal may be compromised letting moisture in which is causing the rust problem. It may be leaking and you don't know it .... yet! That rust will have to be corrected before the windshield could be replaced and you won't know how much rust there is until the windshield is removed.
