Default Anyone know how to remove glue residue from decal?

I just removed some decals off my car, and it was a PIA. The problem now is there are a lot of glue residue left on the car. So far Ive used Goo Gone and WD40 and its taking me forever to remove the glue.

Does anyone know a better chemical I can use to remove the glue residue without damaging the paint? Thanks

bug & tar remover, the cream kind ... let it sit on the gluey stuff and after a few min (like 5 - 7) it wipes of with substantially less effort

there are easier ways i'm sure, but this way doesn't damage your paint

All of the above are good, cheap methods to try ... first. If these fail then the method that is guaranteed to work is to buy a small bottle of GOO-GONE. This stuff smells but works amazingly well. Put some on a rag and rub it on a small, inconspicous part of the decal before tyou rub it on the rest.

It stinks ... but it works every time!

Good luck ...

They had tried Goo-Gone and WD-40 with slow results.

I went through this exercise a few months ago removing all the emblems and YES it is a PITA! Best bets are stick with what you been doing and introduce the heat as well. I did this and it seemed the best alternative while maintaining the integrity of the paint.

Good Luck

I found that soaking the adhesive left over from stuff was easier to do. All I did was soak a MF towel with alcohol and draped it over the spot for a couple minutes. It should make it wet and a little easier to rub off

I too would try rubbing alcohol, but in the past GOO GONE worked wonders for me.

There really is no fast way to remove the glue. It takes time to remove everything clean. Let the goo gone sit and then heat up the glue with a hair dryer and start rubbing or spend 35 bucks and get the 3m pin stripe removal tool.

I had a side business applying gold and black pearl emblems on Toyota/Lexus for a few years. I used to do 10-20 cars per month, and on most cars could switch all the emblems in 45 minutes or so.
If it is less than 10 years or so, after the emblem was removed, I used to use a heat gun applied very carefully until the glue is "gummy", and then kind of "rolling" the glue up. There will then be some residue, which I used GooGone to get it off.
If it is older, the glue get harder and dried out. I'd use pretty much the same method, but there would be much more residue. I'd then soak the residue in GooGone, heat with gun, and use a plastic Bondo scraper VERY carefully.
Always follow up with a good one-step polish/wax.

I jujst de-badged the rear emblems of my GS 300 & had a thick layer of adhesive left over. I tried Goo Gone without much success. Then I used 3M Adhesive Remover which got the job done.

I used a new, small (1 1/2"), plastic putty knife to work the residue off the car. I soaked the adhesive with 3M & let it sit for several seconds before scraping with the knife. Plastic won't scratch the paint as long as the area is clean.

I did not try alcohol or WD-40. Hope this helps.

P21S Total Auto Wash is my go-to product for stickers and decal removal. Citrus-based and made for use on paints so you don't have to worry about using too much or rubbing too hard.
