I think I did the same thing, and mine turned out more flat than glossy. And it looks gunmetal. If I wet sand and use some rubbing compound on it, will it gloss it up a bit? Or will the paint rub off (since we're spraying on a smooth surface)? Or any other way to fix this?

Great write up, btw! I've had it bookmarked for well over a year until I finally got my hands on some PS-31

To attest to it's longevity, I had posted back in 09 that it had lasted one year. Well it's been three years total and they still look as good now as they did then.

So let's say you want to do it again and remove all the paint..has anyone done it without sanding it down? Does paint thinner really work without stripping the chrome underneath? Looking to remove the paint without the sanding process, anyone got ideas let me know! Thanks

paint thinner might damage parts of the emblem if you're going to go that route try it on a small part or the smallest emblem first to see...
you're better off starting from scratch or sanding it down...

Damn this is cool. The paint on my front grille on the GS is starting to flake off.

I remember someone having a thread on how to strip the dark grey paint off the front grill on a 2GS to just the bare chrome finish. I was thinking of doing that and putting a light coat of this stuff, it should make it look brand new.

Is this stuff pretty durable or very soft once it's cured?

by itself it will chip on the front of a car, needs a few layers of a quality auto clear to give it some durability.

I've been looking for a proper way to black out my chrome for awhile. I had initially thought of doing the black chrome/ pearl look, but am really favoring the gloss black look. Has anyone used the Tamiya gloss black as opposed to smoke? Just curious is this will adhere just as well, and give the results I'm looking for. Thanks

at that point you should just sand and paint with automotive paint.

we use the 30 mil one and it's basically the same thing as the stock double sided tape:

that means you didn't wait long enough (or way too long) between the color coat and clear coat, or didn't prep properly.

in a front facing application they WILL chip.
