Washing and Waxing Question
I like to wash my car every week (occasionally skipping a weekend here and there). I have had my car about a month and will probably wax it this weekend. How often should I wax my car? Any recommendations on wax?

Weather permitting..i usually wash my car once a week. I find myself waxing my black IS much more often than my pervious Acura CL...the IS shows swirlies like its her job. Meguiars Gold Class Carnauba wax is pretty good for me....if your looking for perfection..nothign beats Zaino.

I wax the whole car once a month, probably a little more than necessary, but my car is also black and the swirls that are there need some hiding and I'm not motivated enough to remove the swirls for good lol.

If you use Zaino I think waxing every 3-4 months with periodic Z-8 treatments after a wash is great.
For carnauba, every 1-2 months in hot summer months. Depends on heat & humidity in your area...

I use Carnauba, and my car is parked in the sun for at least 6 hours a day, every week day. It sits in the garage all weekend, but 5 days a week for at least 6 hours in the sun. I would rather over wax than have faded paint

If you are not using a cleaner wax with abrasives, there is no such thing as overwaxing. That is like saying you are washing your car too often.
What kind of wax/sealant you use depends on your needs. There are tradeoffs for looks, durability, convenience of purchasing products, price, etc. If you keep your car relatively swirl free then you need something different from someone that has a lot of swirls from automated car washes, improper wash/drying techniques, or from dealer prep.
The bottom line is that there are literally dozens of products that will adequately protect your car and look great. How good they look will be about 90% based upon the prep done before applying the final wax/sealant of your choice. A real pro can properly clean and polish your car and put almost anything on the last step and it will look better than you can imagine.

I try to wax it when the weather is good.. Maybe once every 2 months in the springs.. About every 2 weeks in the summer...
I'm currently using Zaino.. but I'll probably be switching to PB w/ Porter Cable

Can someone post a clear pic of a "swirl." I have these marks (looks kind of like smudges) on my BOP and it looks aweful. I will be posting pics to see what others think because I think I want to get it "fixed" asap.

I use NXT Tech Wax every three months and apply NXT Tech Booster Spray Wax after every other wash. This leave a slick, slippery shine that resists dirt and grime and looks freshly detailed at all times.
Here is the look in black, a 1994 Toyota Highlander.
and on a "Arrest Me Red" 1991 Toyota MR2.

Carnabu waxes last 2 to 3 months, so every othermonth is certainly often enough. Polymer sealents like Zaino and NXT last 6 months, so it's a matter of upkeepon those with wash and quick detail with maybe an occassional additional coat every 3 months or so.

I like to wash my cars every week or two depending on how dirty they get. I use NXT Tech Wax every 3 months and I use the NXT Tech Booster Spray Wax after every other wash. This maintenance step only takes me about 20 minutes and leaves my car looking freshly detailed. It also keeps the paint surface very slick and slippery which prevents dirt from getting a grip so the car washes up much easier. A real decent system IMHO.
