Default What to use to dissolve rust?

What can i use to "melt" / dissolve away rust?

Seems as thought the area where the mid pipe and the mufflers....where they are joined together (bolted on with the flange) has rust. I already tried using steel brush and my dremel tool...but its kinda caked on rust....I have tried chiselling it away and that seems to work...but really looking for something i can slap on or dip into...let it sit...and the rust dissolves.

Anyone got any ideas? Someone posted up Naval Jelly....any other suggestions?

Thanks in advance.

Pete

Naval Jelly is indeed a rust dissolver, it contains phosphoric acid( yes-just like Coca Cola!).

You can use that or straight phosphoric acid, but wear gloves.

If you want to treat the existing rust, you can get all the loose stuff off and then brush on some Ospho or similar rust convertor. They turn a black color when dry though, so if you want a shiny metal color it's likely not your best bet.

The Naval Jelly combined with some sanding will probably be your best bet.
