Default Emblem protectant

It has become apparent to me that while lexus paintjobs are beautiful and hold their luster for years and years and YEARS of service, the emblems, chromed or gold, do not. The emblems on my car are only a year old now, put on last spring. What should be put on them to protect them during the harsh winter months? I was told by the manufacturer not to wax the emblems, just keep them clean and thats it. Are there any suggestions in this case? I plan on washing the car at least weekly, possibly even more during the winter, but what can I do to keep the salt at bay in between.

I would be curious to know why they are saying not to wax chrome, the chrome plating is the same chrome we can find on wheels and parts of old and newer cars, and waxing them is fine and recommended even. Polishing them regularly with chrome polish also helps.

As far as the gold emblems, here is some info ; http://www.advancedplating.com/warranty.htm

If you plan on keeping the car for many years, a clear powder coat is suggested for long-term protection. This of course means removing them and having them coated. I have read where only "glass wax" should be used on gold plate, but as far as I know, no one makes it or sells it anymore. Cheers.

Sorry to bring one out from the dead. Can anyone recommend a brand of powder coating ? Is there a chain store where I can easily find it ?

Thanks.

I think you're misunderstanding....powder coating is a process done by a paint shop, not something you buy in a store. The metal object is coated with a powder and then baked in a high-temp oven to form the final coating. It is extremely durable. Can also be a smooth, pebbled, etc finish.

I received a powder coating quote that is twice the amount I paid for the new emblems. Hence, it does not appear to be a cost effective solution (considering I don't plan on driving the car more than five more years). I've read conflicting opinions as to whether or not to use any type of clear coat on gold plated emblems. I'm confused on what to do. I'd like to put on my new emblems soon. However, if there is anything cost effective I can do to protect emblems prior to putting them on, I'd like to do it. Does anyone have any recommendations based on experience ?

Thanks.

Default Wax it!

Wax it / Zaino it just like the plastic bumper and cladding. Sorry you were told otherwise, but the good thing is that it's not terribly expensive to replace emblems.
My car is 6 years old and the emblems are perfect.
