I have Black Onyx and have thought that it has a clearcoat. It seems inconsistant. I bought Zaino products for the clearcoat. Two questions:

1) Does Black Onyx have clearcoat?
2) If I have applied Zaino products (clearcoat Z2), what could should I do? What would the Z2 do?

#2? Doubt that it'll hurt anything. You might email Sal Zaino direct........he usually answers within a couple of hours!!

Yes. The entire Lexus color palette except black is clearcoated.

That's affirmative. No/negative/nada clearcoat on your basic black Lexus. Btw, are those real Infiniti gatlings (and do they adjust) on your whip??

The theory on "why" it isn't clearcoated has been opined by many ( including yours truly) to be that swirls and scratches will be less evident. The reason being...whenever clearcoat is abraded / scratched, the abrasion turns whitish ( this is the physical nature of clear urethane) .

In contrast, when you scratch or abrade a single-stage color, the scratch will be the same color as the pigment in the paint, thus a bit less noticeable. Cheers.

I'm not sure if Renassance Red was a color offered for Lexus models, but that doesn't have a clearcoat as well.

I just learned on Fridday that most of the cars before '94 do not have clear coasts.
