Democrats lose in the Senate.
Senate Democrats, along with their leader, Harry Reid, suffered an embarassment today when they failed to pass a resolution opposing President Bush's surge in the number of troops going to Iraq.

It was not so much the resolution itself that failed as much as it was the inability of Democrats to stop the Republican filibuster.
The position of the general public themselves on this position is interesting. Polls show the American public behind the Democrats opposed to a surge by 65-30 ( 5% no opinion ), yet, at the same time, behind Bush in opposing a cutback in war funding by 60-35 ( again 5% no opinion ). Something for both sides to think about.
However, I told you guys back in November, right after the election, that the Democrats were going to have difficult time in the Senate........they just don't have the 60 votes to override a filibuster or the 67 needed to override a veto. For that, I was severely criticized by two CL debate members ( who will remain nameless ) and was essentially told that I didn't know what I was talking about.
No, I guess I don't.

No, this really didn't happen, this is just a Right wing conspiracy. Remember, Dashocker and Blue so clearly pointed out how the Bush admin would be destroyed by the "BattleStar Democratics" and wouldn't be able to do anything.

Hehehehehe...... Very funny, IronCobra...
Pray tell, how long exactly have the Dems been in control of the 110th Congress ? Exactly 6 weeks.... And do you expect miracles ?
Just gotta be patient, buddy... And I have to agree somewhat with you and mmarshall, the Senate is a dog I am not impressed with our Dems in the Senate either, but I can forgive them since in reality the Dems don't really have any majority in the Senate. Lieberman is essentially a Republican, and Tim Johnson is still away from the Senate, leaving the Dems with 49 votes to the GOP's 50 votes... Methinks the GOP should control the Senate with the turncoat Lieberman solidly in their corner. He ain't no Dem whatsoever. He may as well do the honorable thing and join the GOP where he belongs
But the House has been kicking butts... the GOP's butt that is That's where you'll see the fireworks... All the Jan/Feb hearings are just the warm-ups.... and represent a means to an end... The gathering storm... so to speak Examples like the hearing on the missing $10b (of $57B of reconstruction money in Iraq) of US taxpayers money? How about the Pentagon IG's report at the hearing ? Or the missing $9B of Iraqi oil money ??? Or the proposed Murtha bill to the Defense Appropriations bill come March/April this year ?
Be patient... We still have 2 more years to go, right !

Brother, I have NO problem at all with the Dem controlled house investigating those things.

I don't either.....as long as it is done fairly, impartially, and non-politically. I'm not sure, however, that Pelosi & Co. can meet those conditions, although I have to say that their conduct, so far, has not been as extremely partisan as some people back in November expected. For those reasons, it is perhaps left up to an independent counsel or panel.

This WWF Pro-Wrestling stuff about Pelosi & Co. is starting to get a little stale.
It was the same line from you last November...."Ha, Ha, Ha.....Bush going down the tubes." Then it was " Just wait till January when the Dems come in and the ****** will hit the fan." Then, when it DIDN'T hit the fan, it was "Wait till February...they just got in." Now that February is almost over, it's just, " Well, January and February are just warm-ups. What do you expect....miracles?"
Sorry to disappoint you (again), my friend, but those "miracles" you keep envisioning are more fantasy than real. You can keep grasping at straws, but the straws are running out. While this is not exactly the same Congress that we had the last session, it is far from the extreme anti-Bush Congress you want....the Senate even more so than the House.
In fact, I have to admit that even I am surprised, to some extent, myself. This Congress, again the Senate even more than the House, has been even less hostile to Bush than I expected.....and I never saw it as extreme an anti-Bush organization as you did in the first place. Even in the House, the Speaker, Pelosi, has gone out of her way to be cordial to Bush, and he, to her, likewise. They are acting like two school kids on a date to the prom, infatuated with each other.
Only one member of Congress so far........Jim Webb, the new Senator from VA (yes, I'm embarassed that we Virginians elected this dunce...I sure didn't vote for him) has gotten into a public confrontation with Bush....and he took a lot of heat for it in the media.
There simply is no other choice but to be cordial and compromise....as I have pointed out so many times. The Democrats simply don't have the votes to either stop a Republican filibuster or to override a Presidential veto...as they found out with the Iraq resolution last week. Bush, on the other hand, is dependent on the Democrats in Congress for his budget submission and judicial nominees....he must have their support, and he cannot just wish his proposals and nominations through Congress. BOTH must compromise...and, for the most part, are doing do.

The 110th Congress is no longer a rubber-stamp GOP Congress. Isn't that the case so far ? Its going to take awhile, and they need to get all their ducks lined in a row... so to speak. Bush is a lame duck trying to quack... quack... quack...

Anti-Bush ? The Congress' job is to represent the American people, not to be anti-Bush...

Well, for a "lame" duck, he's doing a pretty good job getting through duck season....the hunters aren't very good shots. I don't see his stuffed head mounted on the wall of anybody's den yet.

In some cases they can serve the American people by NOT being Anti-Bush....their performance, so far, shows that.
