Who should win the 2006 Heisman Trophy?
Well the finalists have been announced if you had a vote who would you vote for and why? I think that both Troy Smith and Brady Quinn are great players but McFadden would get my vote. He is the player out of the three that I think makes his team so much better. As I think about all those Heisman trophies that were wasted by simply giving them to a player on the best team in the country instead of a guy who was truly the reason why his team even had a winning record. Guys like Gino Toretta and Danny Wuerfuel who simply won because they were the QB of a great team. I say McFadden got here the same way that Barry Sanders did. People were already engraving Brady Quinn and Troy Smith's names on the trophy before kickoff back in September but rarely does the guy who deserves the trophy actually take it home. Where is Marshall Faulk's trophy or Troy Davis of Iowa State who became the first 1-A running back to rush for over 2,000 yards in a season and not win it. Anyway I am rambling but who do you think should win in 2006?

It doesn't matter who should win it, ESPN is so in love with Troy Smith that there is no way that he could lose. He is far from the greatest qb in college football, but the hype about him is unreal.

mcfadden is good... no question. but he does not deserve the heisman and neither does quinn... ND has some losses and so does arkansas and to me, ohio st would not have been as good w/o smith (none of the other two teams as well w/o their player) but being undefeated has a LOT to do with it i think.

Exactly....Troy Smith has a lock. This thread is pointless, the winner has been known for some time now.

See and this is the problem that I have with the Heisman voting. Football is a team game just because a player is on an undefeated team does not make him the best player in college football which is what the Heisman Trophy is supposed to represent. Not best player by NFL standards but just the player who took his team to another level. In my opinion a teams won/loss record has nothing to do with the Heisman and I make my point once again for Barry Sanders who won it on an average team and Marshall Faulk who should have but did not because of where he played.

The thread is not pointless. So we already know who's name is engraved on the trophy but I put a poll up to see if we agree with the choice that will likely be made by the Heisman voters.

i dont disagree with what you say, but i honestly do NOT think that Quinn or Mcfadded (at this point in his career, maybe next yr if he returns) are as good as troy smith. as a COLLEGE player, smith is the best player out there. he is soooooo versatile and mobile and his arm is really good and he is just the ultimate threat at QB at the collegiate level. to me, smith was a gamer and he made it happen when they needed it the most imo. BUT, i think quinn will be better in the NFL as a pocket qb and smith will be more like vince young (and some what like michael vick), running all over the place if the 1st options arent open, but can make a solid throw if there is an open receiver. as for mcfadden, there is no question about how explosive he is and his skill, but he had a couple mediocre games and the same goes for quinn. b/c of those reasons, it belongs to smith w/o question.

Same reason Adrian Peterson didn't win it when he was a Frosh. You have to prove yourself for 3 or 4 years before you can earn it. Peterson had a bumb Soph year compared to his Frosh year.
They want to avoid another Archie Griffin.
However, don't knock Troy...he deserved it! Never lost to Michigan, blew up Notre Dame, beat Texas in Austin and only lost 2 games as a starter. Quinn beat everyone but ranked teams. McFadden is too young but will win it in the future if he keeps it up. Hart lost 3 times to Ohio State and etc....
Troy deserved it!

The reason that this year and last year were so down for Adrian Peterson, is that he was hurt. Even with him missing many games last year and 5 or 6 games this year, he still finished with great rushing numbers. He was the Big 12 leading rusher his sophmore year and second this year. Those freak accidents are killing him.
Troy Smith did deserve the Heisman, don't get me wrong, but there was so much hype for him to win it this year, that there is no way he could have lost. It would have been great to see how close Peterson would have came to him, had he stayed healthy.

Agreed! Hype is what wins it for people. Remember when Joey Harrington's picture hung on the side of the building in NYC? Oregon paid some money for that!
Also, it is my opinion that Reggie Bush won it for the same reason last year. I still believe that Vince Young meant the most to his team...USC could win without Bush. Texas is lost without VY!
No matter how much hype, you still have to produce...and Troy did just that! Good luck in the Fiesta...maybe I'll see you there??
