Your opinion: Absolute BEST team in NCAA BB or FB vs absolute WORST Pro NFL/NBA team?
I've always thought this would be an interesting question to pose.
Just how much skill is there separating the absolute best team (and I don't mean an all star team, but a fully functioning current day college team) in college basketball and the absolutely consistently worst team in the NBA today?
If they played, say, using college regulation rules at the college's home court... what do you think the likely outcome would be?
Likewise, same scenario, but with football?
I don't know a whole lot about sports. I enjoy passively watching pro sports and I'm kind of into college sports, but just because I want to support my home team (University of Memphis, had a piss poor FB season this year, and a good outlook, as usual, for BB this year).
I've posed this question to a variety of my friends and associates and have received a variety of opinions and answers. Though *most* people that I've asked still believe the pro team would win - by how much has varied widely.
And the one consistent answer I have received every time is "whatever the case, that'd be really interesting to watch, though I doubt the NBA team would subject themselves to even the potential to be humiliated, much less to play a game for 'free'"
What do you think?

No matter how good a College Football Team is, they would not be able to beat any pro team. (Period).
Basketball is another story especially when the likes of LeBron and Kobe skipping college and dominating in the NBA.

Hell no, the best college football team could NEVER beat the worst NFL team, wouldn't even be close. Even the Knicks would have killed Florida or the '05 Tarheels.

Well, like I said, most people agreed that the college team would lose, but the answers varied from "the college team would have a small chance of upsetting the pro team, but more than likely lose by a moderate amount (10-15 points)"... to "it wouldn't even be close. The whole pro team would have to come down with the flu or something to even have a chance of losing".
And observations were typically more pro-biased for NFL than they were for NBA, I think because in general NFL players are just a heck of a lot bigger and stronger than college players and the college defensive and offensive line would probably crumble within seconds every single time.

Not even close tak the Raiders v/s Ohio St that defense would just terrorize Troy Smith he wouldn't know what to do with those defense of schemes and Randy Moss would be so jacked up he would destroy the Ohio St. defense. The Nfl would when by more than 40 - 50 points. Now the NBA I would say the Florida last year team would probaly give the Knicks a good game as you can see that David Lee is doing better for the Knicks as he did at Florida.

Not to mention that even the worst NFL team is made up of College All-Stars.

yep, Ive seen this discussed on other forms. no way the best college players can match up to NFL.
But I would pay to watch it.

The best college teams are made up of around 10 maybe 15 players who have pro potential, but not all of them will make a team. A NFL team is made up of all college all star players. There is no way that a collegiate team could beat a pro team.

But individual skill upon drafting isn't really the whole story, IMO.
I mean maybe they were drafted as a college allstar and ended up really sucking and that's why they now play on the worst team in the NFL likely making a relatively dismal salary compared to the people who really are making an impact?
Maybe the pro team sucks this year because the team has no chemistry... maybe everybody dislikes each other and the team plays selfishly and thus despite any individual skill, they just don't work well together?
If they actually DID play a college team in real life I imagine they'd also come in extremely over confident and possible not very motivated since it doesn't really affect their NFL record or statistics, they probably wouldn't be getting paid much, if any, to play the extra game, and well we've just all seen what happens sometimes when you get a group of all-stars together who lack chemistry or motivation (look at the US Olympic basketball teams).
The college team on the other hand is obviously a well oiled machine... they'd have to be to be the best in the league. Probably a whole lot of pro potential, especially in their starting lineup. And of course a whole ton of motivation due to the once in a lifetime event and opportunity - lots of pressure, too, of course, but of course they know they won't look too bad even if they lose by a lot so they only stand to look good.
I just think it would come down to a lot more than adding up the player by player skill level on each team.

Of course it would have to be based on more than every players skill level, but there would be such a vast difference in talent. You have to remember that the worst football teams, unless traded, have the best new college players on their team.

That is of course unless you are USC...where the media seems to want to think that last years team could have...
Hell, they couldn't even beat Texas.

One of the biggest differences between CFB and NFL (besides the obvious size/strength issues and talent issues) is pure speed. ESPECIALLY on the defensive side of the ball.
On a lot of college teams, it seems that the people that tried out for offense are playing defense because they couldnt make it. Some players are really good at defense of course; but in the NFL; every player is born and bred for that position. The defenses are so much bigger and faster than college defenses its really crazy.
Last MNF, the Colts' defense had a chance to shine because the Bengals played to the Colt's strength.... they have amazing defensive speed; it seemed Freeney and Mathis were already past the line when the ball was hiked. Check the replays... its RIDICULOUS how fast they were. Too bad they do badly against the run... tho they did very well against R Johnson
