Felipe Caldron is the new Mexican President. Like our 2000 Bush-Gore election, it was basically settled in the courts, except that Mexico has essentially one main Electoral Court that settles disputes instead of a whole network like ours. Outgoing President Fox was cited for illegally making campaign statements, but the Court felt that it not a major enough factor to overturn the election results. Last night President Bush and the State Department formally recognized Calderon as the new Mexican President and pledged to work with him.
Immigration, no doubt, will be a big matter for him to deal with as soon as he takes office.
I'm a little concerned, though, that Calderon's opponent, Lopez Obrador, refuses to accept the ruling, and has pledged to start an " alternate government ". That could, of course, mean anything from street protests to an outright civil war.

LexMex, you're one of CL's main eyes and ears down there. How is Mexico City taking this?
