Exclamation Electric Power Steering Recall

Did everyone else get the letter in the mail about the Electric Power Steering Replacement yesterday? It says that certain cars may experience hard turning because of a problem with the magnets in the steering system. They will replace the power steering system at no charge.

I haven't noticed a problem with turning, but coincidentally, I did make an appointment last week to bring the car in because the steering wheel is now slightly off center. Wonder if this recall problem has anything to do with it?

More than likely the recall will only be for 3GS with VGRS.

Here's a copy of the letter. It clearly states it's for the GS300 and GS430. Did anyone else get one yet?

When did you say you got the letter? I haven't received anything yet. Maybe it'll start coming around in a few.

It says the repair may take around 5 hours... hmm. Hopefully, mine won't be one of those "certain" ones that are affected.

I'm one of the unlucky owner to experience the electric power steering failure 2 weeks ago. My car had to be towed back to the dealer and it took them a week to get it replaced.

Now i'm still having problem with the new steering unit as the steering response seems to be quicker to the right. The dealer has reported this to Lexus Japan and still waiting for feedback. Do you guys experienced the same problem with the new steering unit?

Wow, so the steering completely failed on you? I was under the impressioned that it would become harder, but not undrivable. Hmm...

No letter yet for me, I wonder why it doesn't state which VINs are subject to this recall.

The steering becomes so hard to turn that it's impossible to drive safely unless you going straight all the way.

It happened to me suddenly so just be careful out there. I was lucky it happened to me in a parking lot.

I just need feeback from owners who had replaced their electrical power steering as for me, the steering feeling is now lighter and the reaction to turn left and right are not the same.(had checkd my alighment twice already)

I had mine replaced this morning. Steering feel is identical to before the replacement and left vs right seems identical to me. If I didn't know they did the work, I would've said that nothing has been replaced.

I haven't received a recall letter, but I called the dealer anyway. The recall is very limited and affects only the first couple thousand GS300/GS430s manufactured. Check with your dealer for the VINs affected. My GS300 wasn't affected.

I have been a Lexus owner for all of about 3 months. Two weeks ago I was driving home in my RX400H. I was exiting the highway when the steering seemed to become difficult. I thought I was in the processes of getting a flat tire. I stopped at the light at the end of the exit ramp. When I light changed (2-3 seconds later) I proceeded to turn left and the steering was completely gone! I bumped the right front tire on the bridge curb. I got to the other end of the bridge and parked. Lexus towed the car to the dealership and 12 days later told me according to THEIR computer the power steering failed because I hit the curb!!!!!!!! People I hit the curb BECAUSE the POWER STEERING FAILED. I refuse to get back in that car because if Lexus denies there is a problem with the power steering, then they will not be fixing it and this could happen again - this time I might not be so lucky as to have been on an exit ramp.
