Default Nuclear reactors in college Campuses a terror risk

Did you guys know there are nuclear reactors at some college campuses here in the U.S? To this day, this continues to be a terror risk due to lack of proper security. Some background

Quote:
Prime Time Live did a investigation regarding this last year.
The Primetime Live report examines how close those interns were able to get to the reactors, theorizing the facilities could be vulnerable to terrorists who could set off bombs that release radiation into the atmosphere.

ABC said its interns found unlocked doors, saw unmanned security booths and, in some cases, were given guided tours that gave them access to control rooms and reactor pool
http://www.usatoday.com/life/televis...-interns_x.htm

Should the Bush Administration implement new security measures at college campuses around the country?

Your thoughts..........

Simply for research. There is not enough material there to do anything but to burn down a room. There is no need to panic. Just another libtard and their reporting scams. Lets go scare joe public!!!

Ya, my school has one, not many people know about it though. For research of course.

You do? You know where to find the yellow cake and aluminum tubes that Bush is looking for?

I would bet that in the 3 months leading up to the war, when the UN was dragging its feet, Iraq had plenty of time to figure things out.

I saw that Primetime episode and was shocked that college campuses all over this nation are running small nuclear reactors with little or no supervision or control from the NRC. They aren't manufacturing nuclear weapons, nor do most of these facilities even have the capability to go beyond a self-sustaining reaction that produces sub-atomic particles for research. However the threat of an "accident" that could contaminate a small but significant area does exist.

Despite the fact that these are small facilities, they operate under license from the Nuclear Regulatory Commission. State colleges are no challenge to a federal agency that regulates every reactor and every component of that reactor - including fuel and waste material. The NRC not only licenses and regulates the facility, but its staff and management as well. Failure to comply results in a cold reactor and a WHOLE lot of fines being passed out.

This is not a Bush issue, not a war issue, not a WMD issue. This is a serious issue of operating a potentially dangerous industrial operation in the middle of a college campus with little or no adherence to well-established safety, security, or procedural policies. This isn't just about terrorists - what was so thoroughly glossed-over in the piece was that a disaster could be touched off by some doofus grad assistant with his feet on the console.

It's not a political debate, this is strictly a safety issue that has been ignored WAY too long. I've done a bit of work around nuclear materials, and believe me, especially if you have children in your home, or are of child-bearing age, this should hit you right between the eyes . . . or a couple feet lower . . .

Institutes of higher learning often get a free ride that industry, for example, does not get. I would guess that for every one college that has a real reactor there are dozens that have nuclear sources of one shape or another. They may not sustain a reaction but they have material that you wouldn't want in the water supply. Now throw in almost unregulated bio labs and you have more reason to lose sleep if you are so inclined.
