Unhappy GS Resale Value is Disappointing

i just had my 06 gs 300 appraised by carmax and it came in at 36k. Fully loaded with nav/ml, ac seats, rear sunshade, etc. That's rough for a vehicle still in it's model year and only 17k miles. What do you guys think?

Well that's a trade-in value, not a resale value. If you sold your car to CarMax for $36K they'd probably resell it (resale) for $40K.

If you're thinking of selling your best way to get the best price is to sell it privately, although if you trade then usually you only pay sales tax on the diff. if buying something else, which can be a pretty good savings. So if your sales tax is 7% then you'd be 'saving' 7% of $36K (~$2500) by trading which somewhat offsets the lower price vs. private sale.

sell it privately...i took my 04 GS300 to carmax to get appraised and i got 31k for it...the car doesn't have nav or anything..haha...but it had low miles...like 8k...right now the car has 12k so i think i could get a good price for it...or maybe not...do miles really matter with a car your trying to sell that is the previous model year?

I think the GS 300 and 430's are going to drop but not get clobbered by the 350 and 460.Why? No bluetooth, old navi, underpowered (300). But we all know this on the board, the average wealthy joe doesnt know a 4th gen nav from a 5th.

I've never leased anything so I'm not quite sure, but why spend all of the time and money in to a car just to give it back?

Funny but I was on Autotrader last night and reading forums...
Didn't look at GS 300s but GS 430s, the lowest price I saw was 39k. I saw M45s going for 38k.
An Acura dealer has an ad on e-bay selling new RLs for 41k, ten at that price! An owner reported asking 36k for his one year old RL.

GS resale is not that bad. FYI the dealer will NEVER give u jack for your car unless your in good.

i think the resale is awesome,, my buddy sold his gs300 with navi,, not ml or anything, for 39k,, he bought it a few months after it came out and put over 12k miles on it,, not bad,, cause he leased it at 43500,,

also if you can buy it new for 44-45k loaded why would one expect the used value to remain to be high

i guess i am overexaggerating the depreciation. 44-45k for a new one is pretty good so i guess 36 is not that terrible. but still a 9k drop on a 2006 model in the year 2006 was not expected. Especially when you consider i paid near msrp for this when they first came out. more like a 13-14k drop. i guess thats part of the early adopter tradeoff. i am looking to sell so maybe i will get around 40-41.

Luxury cars take a serious hit in their first year. I tried numerous times to get out of my GS430 lease only to find that the money they were offering me was terrible. You have better luck selling it outright rather than trading it in.
